Driving on 195 today started to hear a tick, poped it in neutral and reved up a little sure enough it was the engine! Pulled over got towed home thanks to AAA pulled the valve cover off the drivers side and the second valve (exhaust or intake?) on the drivers side 1st cylinder spring was broke, as well as a bent push rod...............gonna hunt some parts tomorrow! Any one got an idea what was the cause...hope that is all my problem and the lifter and valve is ok!
aNY SUGGESTIONS APPRECIATED! jAKE

Just weld an air chuck to an old spark plug ( have to drill/ clean out the plug) an air compressor, spring compressor.Put truck into neutral, install modded plug in hole, fill cylinder with about 80-100 lbs of air( or enough to hold valve up), remove broken spring, replace broken spring and push rod.
Hopefully all fixed  :D

careful !!! the valve may have dropped and contacted the piston. best remove the head and check it all out! Just to be safe.

The same one went on me but the springs where ok. I called Sean when it happened and he said it was a common problem. Harden push rods will do the trick.

I wouldnt pull the heads .. i would just boroscope the cylinder much easier with the same results.

Out of curiosity and for reference, is your engine stock or do you have a supercharger / turbo set up? :dontknow:
Sorry to hear of your problem. I hope you get it sorted ASAP without too many headaches and bills!

what brand of push rods and where could I get them, I think I might swap out mine before this happens.

I got them from Roe Racing;). They where pretty cheap and I know he keeps them in stock, and there the correct size with no worries:D

I took a look on the site and couldn't find them unless you got the whole forged engine package but I'll send him a PM

Nice avatar....:itsme:

Quick

Thanks for all the help guys! Fortunately I did have the air chuck and valve spring compressor in my toolbox from all my chevy work..I did remove the spring and pushrod. The valve seem to be ok. I was wondering if it hit the piston as well and worried about the lifter. guess I will just replace the sprng and push rods or see if someone has a boroscope.. I am all stock and have definitely not overreved just normal driving....Thanks, Jake

I see your in Boca, I'm in Fort Lauderdale. I have A LOT of spare SRT10 valves and pushrods if you need some help. Check the pushrod and you'll find a painted circle around it - identify the color so you can match the pushrod.
