Took the beast to work the other day, right before I got to where we park my truck seemed like the tranny was slipping. I would be holding a steady speed and rpm's, then all of a sudden it would rev up between 500-800 rpm's higher and felt like it wasn't putting the power to the ground. Next time it did that, it revved up and then made a loud banging noise and I could feel the truck jerk. It did that twice, and my best guess was it was slipping out of gear and that's why it would rev up and feel like it's not going anywhere. Then when it went back into gear that was the loud noise and jerk.

So I parked the truck and checked my tranny oil and it was way above the max fill line. Looked underneath the truck and the bellhousing was saturated with tranny oil, oil spots all under my truck, and a small tranny oil leak. I think that either the factory or dealer put way too much tranny oil in and I might have blown a gasket or seal. I never touched my tranny oil at all, and to be honest I never even checked the tranny oil level till this day. I figured that they would have it at the proper level from the factory, or that the dealer would make sure they checked it.

Truck going in on the 3rd to get looked at by dealer over here, and even though it's covered under warranty, I'm pretty fukin bummed out. I almost want my tranny to be broken so I can get a brand new one.

Has anyone heard of this happening before? I'm no mechanic so I could be wrong about what's really the problem, this is just what I suspect to be the culprit.

I can't wait to get it fixed and drive it again, this truck is very addicting to drive. It makes any other truck seem so very boring to drive.

Appreciate anyone's input. Aloha.

Yea I did. I only checked it in park while running though, not neutral. The oil level is at least 2 inches above the max fill line.

Okay, here are some things to check.

I have not looked at QC's, but is the transmission cooler linked to the radiator? If so you could be getting water into the tranmission. Is the fluid foaming? When the truck is cool, check the radiator to see if there is transmission fluid in the water, or it could be foaming also. I have seen where the seam between the two tanks split and cause this.

You don't mention the speed you are traveling, but the change in RPM's could be that the torque converter is locking and unlocking. That will cause it to do what you described. I know on the Dodge Diesel trucks this can be caused by the TPS.

Hope that helps a little.

That sucks dude, but at least you are under warranty. Unfortunatly stuff goes wrong...........my truck has had its share too. Let us know what the dealer finds out.

I am kinda wondering now after reading about TPS, if mine is not doing the same thing... no banging however...

I will be driving along at 30-40mph.. and drop the hammer, and it will seem like it comes out of gear and spools way up like 6200rpm, scares the hell of me so I back out of it... and then its OK..

Only happens occasionally...

Talked to my tranny guy, and he says it sounds like the computer is confused as to what gear its in... and unlocks the converter....

sounds like the computers don't know what to do with our trannys

Turns out it was the seal for the shifter linkage going into the tranny. Blew the seal I guess so that's what caused the problems. That's what the dealer said, they ordered the new seal and it's gonna take 5 days to come in. So hopefully my truck will be fixed soon.
