Burnout Q

Hi fellas,
for those who do a burnout :burnout: frequently and/or for a big No of seconds:

Did you never had melted rubber on the rear (fenders):dontknow:

I saw "burnouts till they pop" last summer on a meeting last summer and the paint at the back was nasty from the sticky rubber...:stupid: :bawling:

Is there something for protection? Can it be removed easily? Does it leave
burnmarks on the paint (I would think so)?

When I race (never really do that) I put a clear shield on my lower rear quarter panels.

Give the rear fenders a thick coat of wax before the burnout...It will be so much easier to remove the rubber ...That is what i did when i drag raced my camaro-69...:burnout:

If you are planning on doing burnouts, just put some vegetable oil on a soft rag and rub it on the fender. Rubber does not stick, washes right off and does not hurt the wax.

The advantage of the mylar (Steve get here and correct my names) I use is that it applies in seconds, and protects from stones, sand and most anything else that hits the rear lower quarter panel...it is transparent...but I bet Steve could get it for you in any color you want...when the truck goes to St. Louis in a couple of weeks, it will have the mylar on the front surfaces to protect them too...

Just some plain old WD-40 wiped on the area before the burnout session makes removal very easy... you can even coat the inside of the fender well and parts with it to make spraying of the rubber remains easy..

i have a sure fire way of keeping that stupid rubber from sticking.....a thick coating of mud (note avatar)....sprays right off leaveing a nice shiny finish....just make sure to wash in ur nieghbors yard to avoid the "mud rectangle" in your own yard... good luck~~

I tried Pam once at Moroso,
Sprayed it on,did My burnout,checked it back in the pits,thought to myself,wow this is great(came right off).I then finished the night of racing,went home and basicly forgot about it for a day.(BAD IDEA)It seems when left on,it breaks down the rubber and makes one big tar smear.Getting that off was a real b#@&h.So if you use anything,clean it off a.s.a.p.
The plastic strip is probably the way to go,masking tape also works well.
