I'm going to install a CAI system when my truck arrives and was wondering what you guys have installed, what works better and what your opinions on the two main ones are. I have a K&N CAI system in the Jeep and it's awesome, 15-20 minutes to install, easy to do and works awesome. The sound increase inside the car and out is awesome, almost hard to believe a reasonably small mod like this would make those improvements + better response, cooler engine and hp gains of 5-10hp+.

Now, my question, which system should I get? I did a search but to my surprise there was bugger all on the subject. I'm leaning the Volant way as the price is greater which usually reflects the part quality and performance. The Volant system also looks cleaner and more professional. The K&N not as much but if it works better? Volant claim it will add 36hp @ the rear wheels?? The Volant is $445 (Part # 16083) and the K&N is half the price at $220 (Part # 63-1107).

Input, ideas or opinions are welcomed. :)

Thanks,
Carlwalski

dude 36 Hp is being very optimistic. Volant advertises bogus ass numbers for their cold air intake. K and N drop in is probably the best and it is cheaper than the intake. I have a K and N Intake not the drop in. K and N got 17 Hp on a Rc Truck:dontknow:

Don't get the Volant. It's a piece of shit. I liked it when I first got it, but in the end it just makes a lot of noise, and there's no gains. Mine also screwed up my idle when the truck is cold, and I can't fix it. I tried everything, including disconnecting the battery for a few hours. Didn't work. The idle jumps all over the place for the first 5 minutes every time I start the truck. I'm also convinced I've actually lost HP because of it.

The Volant looks sort of cool, and yes, it does sound better than stock at WOT. But in the end it's a piece of junk overpriced plastic box. I'm going with the K&N in the spring. Or I might just throw the stock box back on and do a drop-in.

i have the volent on my truck ill sell, it cause im goin with justins turbo as soon as my funds are right on pm me if you like

Thanks for the input guys, the Volant sounds bad lol. I'll wait for a few more replies and input but as of now, the K&N is definitely the one I'll go for. I guess higher price doesn't always equal better quality goods but in most cases it does, not with Volant though. Any other brands/systems worth looking at or is the K&N fool proof, works well and cheap.

Cheers,

I told Viper tech ted may about Volant saying 36 Hp. And he said that is ridiculous and said he has never seen a real gain of 36 Hp from just a cold Air on any Car. Maybe They Manipulated the dyno numbers somehow just to sell their product:dontknow:

Use the search button and do some research on this before you buy.;) The CAI for these trucks really are more for looks not performance:(

Strange That a V10 with 8.3 Liters cant get any performance out of a simple cold air intake:dontknow: :(

As I stated, I searched already and there was squat about these two products. I own my own forum so know newbs and searches, so, trust me, I searched. ;) I'm not so worried about performance gains, I don't mind if it stays the same or I gain 2-3 hp, I just want more interior noise and a better more aggressive sound and obviously better cooling and air flow. 500hp for this truck is fine by me. :) This isn't my "bad girl" so to speak lol. Thanks for the input everyone.

hahaha do some research my friend... there is dyno results on these intakes.. and none seam do do anything for the truck... expicaly the volant... aparently the best one is the stock with the drop in filter... .. the volant ppl have seen a loss of 3+hp ,, k&n simular from -3 to +5 or something..

When you say drop in, what do you mean exactly by drop in, what is this drop in part needed? Thanks, Carl

Justins CAI is by far the best looking and he is one of our vendors.
The K&N drop in refers to the replacement air filter itself, dropped into the stock airbox, which gains as much HP as any of them. ( 3 to 5)

YUP! CAI's in my opinion are just for show. I just replaced the stock filter with the K&N and it performs great! And the best part..Cost me bout 50 bucks!!

Cool, thanks FatJack. :) Does the drop in filter make more interior noise, like, can you hear the engine better as the rpms increase like you do when you do a full CAI conversion? Does anyone have the part # of the filter needed? Thanks, Carl ;)

Thanks for the link. ;) So, do they make more noise from increasing the air flow or is it unnoticible?

I was told that you cant really hear the sucking sound inside the cab with the drop in filter. With the k and N CAI which I have you really hear the sound..............but dont expect more power from it. Its really for some sound and bling.

JMB Justin has a really nice looking one...........I would check it out. The Volant.............hell no!!!

Thanks Maui, I'll go for the K&N filter system. I know for a fact you hear the difference and I'm very pleased with the Jeeps sound and better peep from the K&N system. I don't mind gaining nothing, I'm only after a bit of extra interior sound and with the aftermarket BB exhaust the engine will flow and breath nicely. Thanks everyone. ;)
