caliper paint

any other advice, shortcuts, etc. for example, take all four wheels off first, otherwise paint will setup before you get the other wheels off,etc...just want to know what to expect before i tackle this project.

this is just what I did,

i jacked up the front, took both front tires off and removed the calipers and cleaned them well.
then scuffed them a little with a scuffy pad (3m)
when you put on the first coat it looks like crap so be prepared;)
but I put one coat on one caliper, then swapped over and done the other side.
I think you wait like 15 minutes or so between coats, but I waited like 10 or so, but basciallly did one side, then the other, and back tothe first.

but i put on I think three coats on each bud.

after that i let them dry for a few hours before installing the back

if you wnat a killer job, remove the pads also

I'll post up some pics of mine later today. A piece of advice, toss the brush that comes with the kit. They are el' cheapo at its best. Spring for a decent quality brush, 1/2" or 3/4" wide -- it will help get into tight spots. The paint, as it cures, dries flat, no brush strokes. Take your time with prep work, masking and cleaning the calipers (G2's kit included a can of brake cleaner).

Still waiting for the pics.

Sorry Mike, I didn't forget about ya. It took me a while to find them -- having a 7 year old who is well versed in computer usage can make Big Daddy's stuff more difficult to find ;)

Here ya go G2's results:

Drying on my "custom made one off hangers".

FastRam,

Did you paint them with a brush? If so, how did you avoid getting paint on the pistons? Just being careful???

Looks, good just wondering how you did it.

Yep, I used brushes. For the larger areas I used a 3/4"W brush, same ones sold at Home Depot or Lowes - mid-grade $6/$10 per brush. For the tight spots I used modeling brushes (I forget the brush size number) and a 1/8" and 1/4" wide flat artists brush. I did everything free hand and masked most of the caliper hardware. Around the pistons, it was free hand, masking was a PITA -- the modelling brushes worked well here and I left the narrow space between the pistons alone.
