Just thinking today, I want to eventually throw my ROE on the truck but want to wait and do it right. Reason being is cause i know i'm gonna want to throw on the stinker pulley and roe 10lb:rock:

But just wondering how much i'm gonna have to save up to send my motor up to arrow and if they will be able to install the piston and rods and that stinker sells instead of the diamonds.

So yall that had motors built how much ya ll think i'm looking at???

intially was just thinking of doing diamonds on the stock rods but after reading what happened to bone's motor on the juice(which i also plan on doing) i'm having second thoughts

Engine

Why don't you just send your truck to Roe and let Sean do the engine. He's doin mine right now. He does some awsome work to these engines and his tunes are awsome too.

You are on the right course is you plan on boosting the Roe to 13+ LBs.....My build was done to handle about 1200HP using GM parts and a local race engine builder....cost me about $5000 parts & labor....I would say you are looking at $10K...

You only spent 5k on your build?

Damn, if I could do it over again... I'd go that route.

Some say it was not a good way to go but I have covered 15,000 miles since the build...zero problems and uses zero oil (took about 10,000 miles to seat the rings completely)...I go 2000 miles between changes and the dipstick reads the same as the day I changed it....

Are you gonna send them the whole truck, or just the motor? I just gave them the whole damn truck and had them do everything. It was like $2500 in labor for pulling the motor, tearing it down, and reinstalling it. If you can do that yourself, you'll save a butt load.

I'm sure Sean Roe is the best and its a damn shame he's on the opposite coast.

But I can turn wrench so I want to do it all. Hell I would even install the pistons and all but it is nice to just yank the motor and send it out and reinstall it when it gets back.

As far as the build goes it wont be nothing fancy.

Heads will be stock

Cam will be the comp cam that Sean has selected for it

pistons and rods @la per stinker

mains will be stock..

just looking at a street tune of 600hp or + just as brad has on his truck

and little juice shot for the whipple lightnings to show em were just not just the fastest

as per guiness on some test track. I really believe roe trucks are capable of

10's with juice on a set up suspension:congrats:

What i'm looking for is a quote on how much to bore and install pistons or

just a basic short block. If theres any oiling modifications I can do that are

worth while i'll do those too!

yeah i just gonna send the short block.

oh and TNviper, i saw your thread on the in frame overhaul. I was gonna do the same but i have 50k on my truck now so I think a new bore and hone will be worth the extra effort

You will save a lot doing some of the work yourself....My build using GM parts required turning the crank .020 and boring the cylinders .010...the parts were only about $1600 and the builder was a friend of mine so that saved a little....my dealer pulled & reinstalled the engine...

All my paperwork is out in the truck... if I remember right, the actual machine work and building of the motor was around $6,500 parts included.

yep, devildog.....my build started out as an in frame as i was only going to install Diamond pistons....they shipped the wrong pistons and I decided it was stupid to tear the engine down this far and not do it right...

Hey Alfredo,

U do realize there a quite a few good machine shops less than an hour or two from you right?

Hell you have an authorized Illmore dealer like 30-40 min from you. Im sure if they dont do quality work they know a few close by.

In Yorba Linda you have a few NHRA build shops. If they dont know how to build a short block i dont know who does.

Then you have Boostpower in the valley i believe

There are also a couple in Orange County that are extremely good.

Maybe that helps. It would sure help with the costs of shipping. And being local maybe theyll cut you some slack and drop by and pitch in???

Just a thought.

John Edwards does a fantastic job as well. He also has a freight carrier that makes being some distance away easier on the wallet. Be sure to give him a call before making a decision.;)

I dont know exactly what mine has cost as my builder hasnt sent me a final bill yet. I think its kinda strange as I have had my motor for about 3 weeks now. It all depends on how far you go with the build. Make sure you plan a build on what you want your end result to be and then build it even stronger. Billet mains, K1 rods, custom pistons, custom cam, heavier pushrods, Cloyes timing chain at a minimum. Then the rest is additional, like head porting, intake porting, bearing and piston coatings, valves, valve springs, roller rocker arms, etc.

I talked to DC Performance and asked for a price on a 1500HP build and there quote was $35,000. This included Striker heads by the way. I did the same build less the Strikers but included a full port and polish with good valves and springs to match 20 pounds of boost. Im guessing for around $15,000 Canadian and it was done less than 1 hour from my house rather than 3000 miles away. I did pull the motor, disassembled it and reinstalled it myself to save a few bucks too.
