That's the largest car show gathering I've ever seen. There is still snow on the ground here so...not much interest in any shows yet.
Another one this weekend in the North Island. Beach Hop also capped at 1000 cars. Not that I am going. My truck is having a sleep because of fuel prices $4/litre
Yikes!, we are 1.80/L for 94 which is what I use in my rig, and is the highest pump octane we have here.
Yeah our fuel is heavily taxed like Europe. Then they wonder why we can't compete on the world market.
Now that I am not working, the truck will not be doing much. I get pension at end of year. It will only fill the truck twice, but nothing else.
Our fuel octane rating is on the RON system (how fitting) we have on supplier (NPD)that does 100+ your 94. BP does 98 but too expensive. Because of the variation on what arrives by ship, it is usually dosed to 102. I have 2500 miles on it now. I do believe the exhaust smoke when hot at idle is disappearing. In about another 1000 miles I will change from 10w40 mineral on to 5w30 Synthetic. See how that goes.
I never did use break-in oil but my engine had LOW-tension rings, a mild crosshatch (borderline shiny) with a steepish 50 degree included angle. It also has coated skirts so if there was some rockin' under load, it shouldn't damage the walls (at all).
So, primarily because of the rings and crosshatch, it needed mechanical loading EARLY in it:s life. I could look it up but it was several w.o.t. runs starting at around 100 km. (?) after initial startup. If I hadn't built it like that, I would have used a break in oil.

Mineral oil loses viscosity pretty fast with engine heat and it can and will smoke. I never did leave it in very long if/when I ever used it as it has low or no detergents.
An early oil change will get the tiny filings from the cylinder walls out of there.
500 miles with Mineral Oil is plenty in my opinion, or several back to back pulls on (preferably) a loading dyno (Mustang), then dump it.
You are only trying to get the rings to seat a.s.a.p. and load makes that happen. As you have a manual trans;, you can make that happen!
But check with your builder, as I don't have the specifics on your engine and...Good Luck!
