Has anyone tried or heard the stock exhaust with cat deletes. Or Just glass packs with cat deletes?

:bebored:

Here is my truck. Cat-delete with stock exhaust.

I will be doing this very soon. Parts are on the road. I don't want my exhaust to be super loud. I was going to delete the cats and see how that sounds. Then if the sound level was still to quiet I will do a catback.

have a freind who got catless mids and glasspacs the drone in the truck at 60 plus SUCKS ,,,he is going to put a magnaflow catback on it soon ,,after hearing his i might just go with high flow cats and mag if it will pass inspection in texas ,,,anyone here from texas have this setup and can pass inspection with out any part swaping before you take it in ???

With the cat deletes and the Magnaflow, I still had a drone but at 80 MPH. I had to add resonators to make it tolerable.

I done it and it was great,,, not to loud but alot more thump at wide open throttle

With cats and magnaflow.........sounds great at WOT, and comfortable in the cabin, no drone. Cat delete and magnaflow, idle is fat and mean, WOT loud and proud.....everybody hears ya. Just crusing, you definatly hear it in all gears.............you need to like hearing the exhaust with this setup.

Mine has catless mids with stock muffler(with an "H" pipe, too much cackle and pop without the cross-over.)Sounds great.MagnaFlow and catless was just too loud for me.

I've got but haven't installed yet a full Billy Boat system, no cats. Long tube headers, catless mids and cat back exhaust. Can't wait! Should be one deep and "hear-able" system, real deep.

My insp place in katy reads everything from the pcm port and not the tail pipe. so deleted cats or gutted fronts and deleted rears with sims will pass.

I finally installed my magnaflow to my catless mids. EVERYONE that hears it loves it! I have a stock exhaust manifold and haven’t gone true 3â€￾ yet.

P.S.
I couldn’t stand the tinnie/kazoo sound of my stock system with the cat delete. :puke:

Magnaflow is the way to go.

After that you've got to top it off with a CAI! the sound is CRAZY!

Agreed. The CAI with a good catless system is the ultimate in engine breathing. More air in, more air out.

thanks bigike,,i most of the time go to a sticker stop on hwy six ,,,i noticed when he did the first inspect he looked under truck ,,,i was wondering if he was looking at tires or looking for cats,,but it was a out of state first inspection too

I used to work for 6 years while I was in high-school and college in Houston as a car inspector. All vehicles '84 and up have to have cats on them.

The 1st thing I would do when a car or truck with exhaust came into the shop was to look for converters. If they weren't there, I would tell the person I couldn't pass it because of that.

They have two tests performed in Harris County; an emissions test and safety inspection. The emissions test for vehicles 2-4 years old just consists of hooking into the vehicle's diagnostic port. If there are no check engine problems, you are fine. Vehicles older than 4 years have to get on a dyno machine. The vehicle is then emissions tested with a probe in the exhaust pipe at idle and 2500 RPMS. This is just the emissions portion of the test.

The safety inspection checks your lights, horn, tires, e-brake, etc. You also have to inspect the vehicles emission components to make sure everything is there (pcv valve, air pump, o2 sensors, cats, etc.). You will notice that there is a price breakout on your inspection report for both tests. The safety inspection is around $10.50 and the emissions test is like $39.00 or so now.

I will admit there were many cool cars I let slide on the safety inspection. It all depends on the shop and who you know. My '92 Stang was cat delete, but one of the benefits of working at the shop was you never failed an inspection. Unfortunately I don't know anyone in the biz anymore or I would slap a set of cat-deletes on my truck so I don't have to change them out everytime I go in for an inspection.

You can hollow the cats out w/o anyone being able to tell otherwise, but it might get you on the emissions test.

wow,.... thanks for the input kids... really need to go to the next GTG to hear these monsters....

Another option I see overlooked to stay away from drone and still have a kick ass exhaust is to Dynamat the cabin. Mine is Dynamated and I get very little drone with my cat delete and Magnaflow setup. In the colder months I sometimes forget how loud the truck is cause the windows are always up. One the highway its a low rumble but once I crack that back window It blows my mind!! Its the perfect way to have your cake and eat it to!!
