came on today,:dontknow: i did a serch and didnt see that code but i did read about the gas cap. i went out and unscrewed the cap and put it back on. tomorrow ill disconnect the battery and see if that works. if anyone knows for sure what that code is please post up. the truck runs the same no noise, smoke, good oil pressure/temp so im sure its minor, thanks for any help Bill

Bill-
I did a quick search here and found this for ya:
http://www.vtcoa.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9391

Re-seat the gas cap (3 clicks minimum), and pull the NEG on the battery (10mm socket).
Let it sit for 10-15 minutes then re-attach the NEG cable.
That should do it.

In regards to the CHECK ENGINE light on the dash:
- Flashing/Blinking= get it looked at ASAP.
- Steady= something very bad has happened. Stop immediately.

its the opposite...
if its on steady you are fine drive
flashing...do not drive

It is? Hmmm....When I had the "gas cap not on right" problem, mine was flashing.
EDIT- I just did a memory check of my brain (using one of my posts here on the forum). I did have it backwards. Sorry Bill.

-STEADY= GET SERVICE ASAP.
-FLASHING= VERY BAD; STOP IMMEDIATELY.

I guess the best rule of thumb is:
If the CEL light comes on *or* flashes, pull over immediately.
Better safe than 1Fast400. :D

I had the same issue. I reset the gas cap and the did disconnect the battery but the light kept coming on. Took to the dealer and they couldnt find any leak. What they did do is lear the code from the computer, apprently disconnecting doesnt clear the code (from what the tech told my svc advisor) and once they cleared the code I was good to go.

It takes 3 driving cycles to clear in OBD II. The engine has to be completely cold to be considered to be a driving cycle. That code is probably the gas cap as mentioned by other members. It will take a couple of days to clear. Don't sweat it. ;)

last night i opened the gas cap and put it back on (3 clicks) this morning i disco's the neg. terminal for 10 min. then i drove to the golf course to lose some ball's in the water!:D it has all worked out so far, no light and got ride of 3 balls:banghead: . thanks for all the info if it comes on again ill check with the stealer to see if they can erase it.
