Changing shifter ball

I have the VIPER shifter knob from Dragon and I decided to try to install it today. Is there some kind of secret to removing the OEM hurst ball on my '06? The nut holding it on has two flat sides but I can't get it to budge with a crescent wrench. I don't want to break anything so I'm here asking for a little help... suggestions?

Just hold that nut with your wrench, an open end wrench would be better then an adjustable. Turn the ball counterclockwise and maybe try and turn the nut at the same time, Clockwise, at least hold it from turning also when you are turning the ball

it's indeed a counter-nut... normaly it screws down to release the knob who is screwed on also himself...

Maybe try to hold the nut and turn the knob.......:dontknow:

i do have some but im still waiting on the adaptor. should be real soon.

the shifter ball is black the viper head can be red, yellow or silver.

Ok, so I know I'm not LBSTONE... but damn, I can't get that knob to budge at all turning it counterclockwise, even with a rubber glove w/gripper. Is it just a question of more muscle or am I missing something else?

dam mine came off easy i held the 9/16 still and twisted the ball counter clockwise and it just spun right off.

Turn the nut clockwise just a little. Then twist off the ball to the left. Done deal.

There is a loc-tite type substance on the threads. Kinda pain the first time. Be careful twisting too hard, I've seen one actually spin the leather on the shifter ball.

I just used a small crescent as mentioned above and got a solid grip and turned.

Turn the nut clockwise just a little. Then twist off the ball to the left. Done deal.

Now that you got the knob off, go get a new shifter. I did a B&M on mine and love it.

Larry, Jimi has a T handle he would probably give you. The T handle has a
1/2" - 16 thread and the shifter has a 3/8" - 16 thread. I have some bushings to make it work. If you buy a new one it comes with the different bushing sizes. I have a T Handle on mine now and it really helps me with the shifting but it is not very comfortable for everyday driving.
