computer woes

Just a word on "backup". Most people I have seen do a backup to a drive that sits right besides the computer. This is a big no no. The point of a back up is to get ya back up and running. If the hard drive fails, this is fine.
Ultimatly you want the backup to be "off site". What if someone breaks in and steals the computer or if the house catches fire??? The backup really needs to be at another location, or the Hard drive it is backed up to taken to another location. Also, how often to back up? Depends on how much data you want to loose. My work laptop is backed up once a week. For me this isnt enough. I change peoples programs (home automation) on a daily basis. I dont want to loose a weeks worth of work. I back up what I am working on to a USB thumbdrive every day.

i have a usb hickey thumb thingy, and not sure of size, but want to back up daily after everything is done, is this ok?

You gonna run outta space on it possibly. I carry a 16 gig. I would look into maybe an online service. :dontknow: I havent used one, maybe someone will chime in. I would also be leary of backing up online if you have peoples credit card info.
You can also use a USB hard drive to back up on. I went one step further and set up a Networked drive at a friends house that I back up to. Then I have one at my house that he backs up onto.

i'll see what I can do, and on CC info, yeah its not going backed up online;)
 
Tony I just got a 1tb external hard drive for backing up my stuff for work. You should look at getting something like this for your back up. They make a unit to use internal drives as an external and you can get those cheap.

Wow Stink, Ya got it all, ya did good ...... Now back it up " Carbonite" 50 bucks a year unlimited uploads, I already got 50 gig uploaded. My drive crashed month or so ago. Installed new drive, Windows, and in a day I had all my stuff back. Can't go wrong for the price. Then who cares if it crashes. ...... Good luck Stink, sounds like ya got a screamer there.

printer is online, and I think I got email online:p frig all these years of outlook express and now having to change, but so far like this new windows deal over the XP:rock:
 
what is some decent relatively inexpensive external speakers for tthis thing?

and remember I didnt plan on haveing to spend $ on doing a dadgum computer:mad:

but the speakers on this monitor really really suc:p read some reviews and its what everyone complained about also, got the volume 100% and you can still barely hear it:confused: and no Alexspop it aint my old arse hearing:p

Any $30 speakers will get you decent sound. I've got an $80 set of Logitechs that sound pretty damn good for what they are.
 
BTW this is why i had to hurry so much! found out I got a few orders that are a little behind:eek:

Tony, sounds like you got a good system. As to the "Backups" there are several ways to handle it. If you give me a call I can go over it with you and what equipment you will need for each type.

I have been operating, repairing, building computers, designing networks, and network hardware for over 30 years (since late 70s). We can talk and find out what you want and then make a plan on how to get there... This is like planning a Build or Mod to the Trucks, you just don't do it without some planning. You will wind up buying something you don't want, need or be happy with.....

As you just found out, the most expensive part of any computer is YOUR DATA. Hardware is just hardware and can be replaced but the data is everything.

I will type out a "How To" for you to follow on how to store your data on the hard drive that will make backup VERY EASY. I will post it up here in a little while (have to type it out first).

Make sure you have the "windows" volume at 100%. Not just the speaker volume. Left click the little speaker icon on the lower right corner of your screen and top it off!
