IMO, morality can be defined as acceptable behavior of a group or collective of beings. Now a community, state, country and planet can be made up of thousands of groups that have their own morals and truths.
Morals, as implied are broad and quite complex. Typically any one being's morals/truths overlap and create a "moral majority". Individuals with morals that conflict with the majority typically gather physically or virtually through various means. (check religions)
In reality we do legislate morality is various forms. Liquor laws, capital punishment, self defense, etc.. All have some form of moral influence on how the laws were defined and enforced.
Most of these coalitions are full of hypocrites as mentioned by Bob and Scott. These groups take action just to see themselves written up in the newspaper and think they are "improving society". Typically driven by individuals who are feeling guilty for their own inadequacies and trying to make it up in other ways.
I highly doubt anything will actually become of this other than newspapers, magazines and TV shows dramatizing and exaggerating the truth in order to increase their own profits.
We have to live with this type of bullshit as we are no longer an evolving species defined by nature. We are a functioning dysfunctional society driven by bureaucracy and an increasing limits of consequence.
