i recently purchased a neon sxt & needed another spare "chipped" key (like our trucks) & a keyless remote...... i stopped by the local dealer (ghost town on most all lots, don't ya know) to price out the parts - what a shock:

spare key = $70.00, programming for either = $50.00:eek:
keyless remote = $70.00:eek:

needless to say, i had to find other options:
you can get chipped key blanks & keyless remotes on ebay for $10.00 & most all vehicles owners manuals show you how to program both yourself for free.......
in the case of my spare key though, i had to have two keys already programmed into my car to use the owners manual way - but still found a cheaper alternative to dealer:
the local locksmith sold me a spare chipped/cut key & programmed it for $60.00 - half the dealer cost...... :D

buyer beware. :)

Problem most dealers have is they still live in the mid 1900s.....they never look at what is going on around them and adapt. They think they can charge full MSRP+ today while their competition (competition they arent even aware of) is taking their business away.......

Good info, we only have 1 key each for both my truck and the wife's Charger. I was wondering if there's a way to plant the chipped keys in the dashes and use cheap keys for every day. Just remove the chipped key from it's hiding spot when the vehicles will be parked for long periods.
Any one know if this would work?

i've heard that option will work as well, as long as the chipped key is close to the ignition..... stick it under the plastic steering column shoud..... :)

The Viper Key Mod is on my list of things to do :D

I used my dealer "hook up" and was able to get the key and programming done for $50.

It helps that the service writer is an old friend of mine.

dealer programmed my remotes for free :D

I have the chip from one of my keys in the steering column and did the Viper key mod
