Now what I'm about to post I got from another site. Let's get the VTCOA out there with max representation. I'm sure TXYellowFever can win a category.

here it is....

ok guys, i have decided to do something.. a little give back kinda thing.. we are going to have a car show benefitting families with special needs children. this show will be in garland october 7 at Bajio's mexican grill on broadway and centerville. if this first show does well.. i will be hosting one every other month at this same location. we will be finding/choosing a family with a special needs child to raise money for and give to them.
as most that know me know, i have a special needs daughter and let me tell you, life is tough. my wife and i are aggresive people and want to do a little for some of these families that have to go through the struggles we have had to go though. the owner and the employees of Bajio's are all great people and will be helping with this... as i get things together, i will post up on another thread.... i am mostly looking to have this first show to be huge.
here is what i have so far..
early registration will start labor day weekend and through the month of september.
with all early registrations there will be a $5.00 gift certificate given and a free meal with each $12.50 early registration
with any group/club there will be a discount as a group...$10.00 each
group/club of 15 or more will only have to pay $150 for the whole group/club for early registration
so with the early registration, you get one free meal,a $5 gift certificate that can be used at the show, and as a group/club your registration will be evern less. week of show registration will be $15.00 and you still get your one free meal.
if you have any ideas or if you dont have a car to show but would like to help, register, or sponsor, please call me on my cell anytime # 972-489-3661/tim

count me in

Hey Chris - Count me in. I'll bring my truck to the show and could help some too. I'm pretty good with a camera too - do you need photography?
Take care, man, and may God bless your new efforts to help others.

Larry

Larry,

I would love to get the truck waxed up for some photo opportunities. Can we do Ennis tonight?

What do you think, Steve, Ennis tonight? If it's anyting like last time we will not have a lot of company to share the lanes with.

Chris -
I think I'll pass on tonight - way too hot for good quarter mile times and for me! I know - I'm a woos. :p

The photography offer is still good, though - of your truck and promo stuff for your show. I have lots of suggestions for your show/fund raiser:
web site
public service announcements on radio
broadcast email
flyers/posters
publicity through special children's organizations

Most of these ideas involve photography and I can help with that. For example, does the restaurant have a good photo of the restaurant? Do they have any photos of previous car events there? In other words, do they have anything like what Cruisers has (www.mycruisers.com) - Cruisers can be a good model - I'm sure you have thought of that already. My son is a marketing guru for Cingular and we were at Cruisers last Monday. He loves hot cars and trucks too, so I'm sure he would have ideas also. I'd like your event to be successful from the beginning but it needs lots of planning and manpower (I'm sure you know that :p ) - I have some of each.

Call me sometime - cell 972-835-4660 - let's talk.

Wow, this is a much different attitude than the other posts I read that went, well shall we just say WAY DOWNHILL from this... Sorry to hear you have personal issues too - we could have tried to help you and your family as well, but apparently your account is now closed per your request. Either way, hello, goodbye and good luck with your daughter/events...

Thats why I was a little disappointed in what was going on. After going back and reading this, I could see the frustration.

I just wish he had handled it a little different. And for those who were looking at attending, just because Christopher didn't handle things well, go anyways, it looks as if its for a good cause.

Lets not let the bitter feeling of an individual affect those who really need help

Well said Jeff. It's the cause, not the person in this case.

I agree,
I think anyone who is in the area of this event, should support it. This is about children, and raising money for a good cause.....I think perhaps Christopher did not fully understand what this group is all about, maybe now he does have a little better understanding. Christopher if you are reading these post, even though I was angry for what you wrote ,if you will pm me with an address I will be glad help out with a small donation. I truly believe that holding on to anger, and hostility only hurts the person that holds them. Good luck with the event

Thanks, MOM! - I missed that number. I'll try to be in touch with Chris - not sure what /tim means or who that is...
If I learn any useful info, I'll post it here.

Apparently there has been some confusion regarding this car show. I do not have a child with special needs. I pulled that information from another site. I am simply passing the word along. I thought that was clear but I suppose I could've provided some better clarification.

Tim is the one putting the show together. Help if you want. If you don't, then don't. It's no sweat off my back but I'll say this. This is a real chance for the VTCOA to get out there.

Chris, it would help if you'd check the attitude. You've already received some offers to help out. Let's get some more information out and do this.

Concur in both thoughts.

Keeping up with this thread because I am a TCU alum, and my first wife was from Garland!

I am currently awaiting a medical discharge from the Army and then moving back to Colorado. If I am still here I will do my best to make it up for the event

Car show at Bajio's this Saturday

OK guys - here's the latest on this benefit car show.

I called Tim and got the scoop. A friend of his has a child that had a fairly simple surgery but contracted an infection and left the hospital as a quadraplegic. A poor trial lawyer, no insurance and government red tape has them over a big barrel (some of you know what I mean). This show is to help them.

The location is Bajio's Mexican Grill on Broadway one block East of Centerville in Garland - a nice place with a large parking lot - I saw it today.
Address is 3255 Broadway
Garland, TX 75043
Phone: (972) 864-1075

I talked to Tim - to register call Diedra at 214-507-2911. Show starts at 12 noon - goes to 4. participants can vote on Best in Show; visitors vote on all classes. There is a 50-50 pot - it's optional of course. Registration includes one free meal, and there may be other goodies. But mainly it's for a good cause. Please consider a donation even if you cannot show. I will be there (taking Friday off also).

FYI - I finally connected with Chris - he has to go out of town for the weekend to see his mother but we will get together next week.

If you would, please let me know if I will see you there. I'm sure they will put all of the V10 pickups together. :D

God bless, and see you soon,
Larry

I participated in this benefit car show at Bajio's Mexican Grill in Garland - had a blast - met some great people, saw some great cars, got a free meal coupon, and won Best Truck!:D Not bad for my first show. There was something for everyone (unless you were looking for wet T-shirt contests - none of that stuff here). Lots of good clean fun, good food, drawings and trophies. Tim Wylie and his wife Diedra did a fabulous job pulling this thing off, and the Bajoi's owners (Greg & Dan in the black & red flame shirts) and their friendly staff went above and beyond to make this a big success.

As for me, I was blessed. My wife came and really got on board with this truck/car show "thing" of mine. She gets it now - lots of clean fun with good folks for a good cause. I had created a photo placard for the front of my truck for the show, and I had a holder for tracts to pass out with a racing theme. About 20 people took tracts - I hope they are blessed.

Here are some of the photos I took. The fat guy in the black shirt near the end is me. Enjoy!
