Cerberus has had a chance now to fully inspect Chrysler LLC's offerings, and the private equity firm wants to make fast changes. The equity firm owners recognize that a complete overhaul of the relatively new Sebring with its cheap interior and eye-sore looks needs to happen immediately. Unfortunately, some of the cash necessary to fix the Sebring may come at the expense of the Dodge Viper. Inside Line reports that Cerberus is prepared to make an instantaneous decision regarding the future of the Viper, both because of a cash crunch and because the $85,000 snake may be losing its bite anyway with the passing of a new national energy bill and higher CAFE standards around the corner. It's hard for us to imagine Dodge and parent company Chrysler LLC losing its halo car like this. We're no auto execs, but the Viper does nothing but make money and fans for Chrysler, and since it's new for 2008, another redo isn't required for at least a four-year life-cycle or so. In other words, we don't like the idea, and likely very few of you do either.

Wow that would be a sad day! The Viper gets nixed for the Sebring. I will believe it when I see it. Dodge couldn't be that stupid. Could they?

Never happen... Plus, is the Sebring that bad? I saw a few pics of them and they dont look any worse than most of the standard cars out there.

My guess is that they will continue this model until it is time for a redo and then kill off the Viper. Fact is, most muscle cars will likely meet the same fate in the next few years if things stay the same. Only we can save the muscle car by buying them off the lots. Unfortunately, we are buying fewer than ever right now and more muscle car choices than ever are available. It's a supply and demand world. Something has to give.

I just hope I can get a bad ass muscle car with a back seat (GT-R or CTS-V?) for around $70k in a year or so. Man I hope the CTS-V is everything it could be.

If it happens it will be a very sad day. And well it will definatly let us know where chrysler/dodge/jeep is going. Straight to the shi**er.
