So the price of oil drops almost $20 a barrel. Where is the instant reaction gas prices usually see when oil goes up? The price of gas didn't drop here.

Things always go up, and never come down........
Don't you know this already :D

If Oil starts to drop gas will follow suit. Just takes time for one of the major oil
companies to drop the price of gas to in crease volume and sales. Then others will follow

This is one of those teaser threads... Where I expected to see instant results but I won't get any play.. DAMN!! But since I'm out of the country again I won't have to worry about gas for a whole month..

if oil prices stabilize at the current prices. you should see anywhere between a 20-30 cent drop in gas prices. I still believe oil is over priced a barrel by $50 dollars.

Only $50? When oil was going for single digit prices per barrel those shieks were still swiming in money...

In a similar thread I said there's no way prices will come down (other than normal fluctuations) during the height of the travel/vacation season. The oil companies just won't loosen their grip. But as in the other thread, I also said I would gladly be proven wrong. I just don't get how prices go up based solely on speculation but are so slow to come down when oil prices actually drop.

ya,, well you need to know facts not bullsnit ,,i am the plant manager of a company that makes the parts for all the cable shops that are installed on the exploration ships that search for places to drill for oil ,,we do work for all the major brands out there mobil /chevron/shell /exxon you name it ,,the FACTS are that the oil companys after all their cost to get it to the pumps make a profit of around 4 to 10 cents per gallon of gas ,,now mind you they have massive cost to do this ,,the us goverment makes 40 plus cents per gallon in taxes per gallon ,,with no costs involved at all on their part ! no exploration /no tranportaion no nothing you buy they collect ,,,the cost to send a ship out to explore is around 6 milloin per trip ,,,the chance they find some new spots to drill in the current restrictions are 1 in 25 trips ,,

so if you want to find fault look for the bleeding heart freaks that dont want to drill on the continental shelf and alaska were we can produce our own crude ,,
now mind you cuba china russia and the punk a$$ opec does drill there any way ,except for alaska, only the US does not do it ,,
if you want lower prices ,,now is the time to let your congress peeps know if they dont vote to explore these areas they are gone ,,,plus you will keep my company busy lol:congrats: :congrats: know your facts before you cry greed,,not to mention that the demacrat congress is trying to slap an extra 10 cents right now to fund the hwy dept trust funds for bridge repairs and hwys ,,,NOW WERE IS THE GREED ,,if you want fuel price drop right now ,,drop 20+ cents of the tax ,,that would be an instant cost saving for the working class people now not way down the road !!!!

The positive gain from an investment or business operation after subtracting for all expenses. opposite of loss.

According to this definition. All the expenses you sited were factored in an covered. And still they are posting record profits of anywhere between 18 and 40 Billion (with a "B") dollars. I'm sorry but I still consider that greed.

And I agree with you that the Government is nothing but greed. But the Government can't post a profit for nothing.

I don't disagree with what you are saying but I have a friend who is a heavy equipment operator who frequently works at refineries during shutdowns for maintenance. Long story short a mistake was made on a job he was sent to and a crane sat on site for approx $125,000 a day for just the crane for over two weeks with him sitting in it getting paid a premium salary. When he got there with the crane they had no idea what job it was for but just said screw it we'll pay for it and figure out where and when we need it. How many businesses can fork out that kind of cash (besides the government) and still function?

like spendin 2 or 3million dollars on drilling a well just to have to plug and abandon .....energen resources 1 week ago patterson 754 ...where san juan basin new mexico

Ever since the housing nightmare started, it seems that the investors pulled out and started speculating on oil...the only commodity not regulated by the Government! Go figure!:( The prices at the pump go up at the first sign of an increase and never come down as fast. That way the prices can stay artifically high because now we are "conditioned" to the higher prices.:dontknow:

Ironhead hit it.. Working with Measurement While Drilling and Logging While Drilling tools I can tell you all that it costs about $100,000.00USD to $150,000.00USD a day to BORROW one ($500 - $800K to purchase). It takes serious dough to drill for oil; time is literally money. What a damn trip the govt. is to actually collect when they really didn't do anything to help produce.

And how much did they have to invest to earn this profiT?
Also how many people did they employ while earning this profit?

The oil companies gross profit margin is 4-10%!

I don't see any greed there!

Lets look at the whole picture!!!
