This weekend I drove up to the Charlotte Motor Speedway to do the Exotic Driving Experience. You pay a few hundred bucks and you get to drive your "dream car". I originally went a few months ago to drive a Ferrari 458 but we got rained out so they "upgraded" me to the Lamborghini Gallardo 570 Superleggera. This is basically the race version of a normal Gallardo. Its a V10, carbon fiber everything, and really a tight squeeze getting in and out of this thing. My helmet was touching the roof the entire time.

SO..I get there, and theres a big goofball instructor that has to give us a safety class. This goes on for about 30 minutes, and he was talking more about his college football days than anything. It was really annoying. Also I was by myself. I didnt take a bunch of pics, and they wanted 99 bucks for the DVD. No thanks. So the guy wraps up his little class and we go outside to the cars. The track was a road course situated in the infield of the speedway. A few tight turns, a hill with a bump in it, and a nice little straight on the back end. Good course, not meant for speed really, more about driver skill.

The cars were 2 Lambos, 2 Ferraris, and a GTR. The GTR was the fastest of the bunch. So Im out there watching these idiots drive these cars like they are station wagons around the course. Finally my turn comes up and I put my helmet on and get in. There is an instructor with you the entire time, basically telling you what to do. My instructor happened to be a blonde from Texas who was an aspiring racecar driver named Christie. Um….she was extremely easy on the eyes, but Im married so whatever. I basically tell her that Im about to drive the shit out of this car. She kinda laughs, I dont think she took me seriously. She lets me know that she has a little dial that controls the ECU and that if anything got out of hand she would turn the power down on the car. Obviously a safety measure. So we finally get going in this thing. The car is small, like maybe a bit bigger than a Miata, and surprisingly quiet. The first lap I just learned the track a bit, second one I went a bit faster, and by the third I was full throttle. My instructor was supposed to be giving me step-by-step instructions and when to brake, apply throttle, etc. She didnt say shit. She just kept saying "good job". The car was insanely easy to handle. It was like a go kart, literally. But here is the thing…it wasnt that fast. I asked her a few times if she had the power turned down but she showed me that we were at 100 percent the whole time. I was pushing that damn pedal so hard, and not much was happening. I was really disappointed. Dan picked me up in his buddys LS powered Datsun, and that shit was about 10 times faster than this Lambo that cost more than my house.

We got finished and she just kinda looks at me like who the fuck are you?? I drove that shit like it was the last thing on my bucket list. She says that I may have broken the record but they'd have to check. When I pull up to the staging area, everybodys kinda looking at me like I just did something wrong. I just simply put, "thats how you are supposed to drive". Walked over to my big beautiful SRT 10 and hauled ass away.

In all, it was an epic time. I came, I conquered, I left. Never, ever ever ever would I ever even think about purchasing a Lambo. They really are slow. I never felt that rush of adrenaline, it didnt put me back in my seat like my truck does, and…well….it was pretty boring.

Also, I was passing a group of motorcycles on my way up and my hood scoop flew out. Thing probably went 75 feet in the air and finally landed on the highway where Im sure it has been crushed into a million pieces, so if anybody has an extra one, let me know.

Heres the only pic I took.

I think I saw your truck yesterday on 85 where it splits off to 77. I was in my White 3000gt vr4 and I saw it as I was merging off. Sounded and looked good man!

awesome how many laps do they let you do??

And ya the Lambos have 0 room in them if your over 6foot, i was looking at a murci and my eye line was right at the top of the windshield so you either had to stick your head out the roof to see or duck down under...

8 laps.

Awesome bro! They have a different power for real! Our have stupid torque and torque curves comparatively but like you a Lambo is my dream car. It's the body that does it for me, as do Ferraris, Certain Porshe, Vettes, Vipers, I love beautiful body lines and low ground clearance rides. :burnout:
Congrats on a lifetime experience man:rock:

Even though i would like to piss into the water that you drink hate you were disappointed I've wanted to do this for awhile good info

I basically tell him that Im about to drive the shit out of this car. He put his hand on my leg and kinda laughs, I winked at him… but afterwards nothing happened, seriously. Good write up! :D

Great story.

I am a sales manager at a Nissan dealership and I have driven the GTR.

I experienced the same thing. Even though it is supposed to be this badass fast machine- it just didn't "feel" like it was. It was so calculating, so mechanical- no heart in this thing. It was fast but it wasn't exciting. It destroyed corners and that's about the only respect that I give to them. I want to be in a supercar that scares me. Vipers give me that feeling.

as a side note, i think the "feeling" of the car compared to the truck, or anything "fast" like a 400hp 2600# 280z might be outweight by it's actual numbers...

not detracting from the car, as i'm a huge lambo fan - like top 5 would have's... i think it might not "feel" as fast as it actually is...

and driving the truck, especially at the limits, is slightly similar to riding a sedated rodeo bull... not that i've done that, but i think that's what it can compare to...

the real question is would you do it again?
