dumping the clutch

Does it hurt the stock clutch to dump it at around 3 grand? Or does it hurt it more to slip it.
When I have been at the track I have been dumping my clutch thinking it will last longer than slipping it. Am I on the right track or can I get some advice on how yall do it at the track?

You dont want to slip it AT ALL... just rev her up and dump it... 22 PSI in the stock tires and it grabs me a 1.9 60' time almost everytime at 3500 RPM dump

Its actually really hard to describe, but its almost dumping the clutch.

If you just flat "dump'' it , the truck will probably bogg down.

but if you very very quickly slip it , you will come off the line extremely hard.

Every clutch and truck is different, it takes a few launches to get the feel of it. and alot of experience helps also.

Pull up to the line, foot on brake and gas( if ya dont have a line lock) and start letting out the clutch tillyou just feel the clutch start to pull then back in a hair.
When the light hits, "dump" the clutch but slowly,

you do it enough and you'll get the feel

I agree with this method. Just dumping it causes too much bog down, where the engine has limited power

yeah stinker is right for getting the best times......slipping will burn it quicker than dumping it so its a comprimise you have to determine what you want more.....better time or spending money on a new clutch!

It all depends on the tires you have. 5-6k dump works really well with slicks, I pulled many 1.6x - 60ft's using that method. If your bogging @ 3k kick it up to 3,200/3,500 and work your way up till you get almost no bog, but at the same time almost no wheel spin....Its a sweet spot. I don't think slipping it is the way to do it personally, too much heat generated and even very fast can destroy the clutch.

I have dumped my clutch a few times (mostly cuz I don't know how to burn out that well) and guess what---- It burned rubber and I still have a clutch so I must be guessing at it right so far :rock: :rock:

I rev it up till it sounds good and dump the clutch - That was easy :star: :dancing:

It is reffered to as "driving it out against the clutch".

It does take some finness to not smoke the clutch too hard or smoke the tires a bunch, all the while not bogging the motor.

I guess I did it wrong........clutch burned up after only a few attempts!!! IMO....slip it if you got $1500 ready to spend on a new setup!

But then you have to look at Jerry (Trainman) with his aluminum flywheel and the job he does. When you consider his mods, I believe he has one of the quickest trucks around for what he has put into it.

but revving to 5-6k and "dumping" the clutch is not a very smart choice to make.

first of all it will create huge hot spots on the flywheel, second, think about it.

a 5-6k lb truck, with 500hp, revved to 5000rpms and then just dropped...

first spyder gears, sooner or later a driveshaft, tranny bearings, tranny support, bellhousing...

I seriously do not suggest just dumping , unless you plan not to keep the truck long enough to enjou it

When I say dump, I'm talking about releasing your foot towards the driver, (lift your foot up with the clutch pedal under your shoe), not slide your foot off the side in an aggressive 'slam'.

I think the difference between a dump and a aggressive slip is splitting hairs really....just do whatever feel comfortable and gets you the best times.

I think the timeslip section would be a good place to start. Ask (who has good 60-ft RC times) what they did and maybe PM or ask them.

The slower the slip the more heat and worse issues...
