I am wanting to install 4-5 exterior flood lights in my single story home. I got an estimate from a company of $1000-$1400. That is to run the wiring to the breaker box and running the wiring down the inside of the walls with the ability to turn each set of floods off and on by switch inside the house. Is that about the going rate for something like that?

Yea thats a tad high(but you pay for quality), but either have them add motion senors or a photo cell to it, it shouln't change the price. Just about every person that has us add flood lights ends up making us come back out to add some way for them to turn on by them selfs(photo cell, timer, motion)

Is the breaker box outside or inside the house? How many feet of wiring? Are they using conduit and 12 guage wiring or are they using romex wiring? Are they going to use a GFCI breaker or a AFCI breaker? Are they taking out a permit?

If they are going to take out a permit and run conduit with 12 guage wiring up to all the lights and switch box repair and paint the walls and possible stucco repair on the outside then $1400 would be reasonable.

they are using a AFCI breaker....dont know the wiring......whats the difference between breakers? so this is a reasonable price then, correct?

Ground Fault Circuit Interrupt (GFCI) or Arc Fault Circuit Interrupt (AFCI). The GFCI is the best one to use and the price is only reasonable if it is being done to code with permits and my above post 2nd paragraph statement.

AFCI are code required breakers in all bedroom circuits. This code is not enforced but it is code. AFCI is not required on the outside and GFCI is the better choice to use. Anything within 3ft of water supply needs to be GFCI protected (At least in LA). Since your flood lights will see rain I would choose a GFCI breaker.

this is yet another reason why this forum is the best site on the net, hands down. I value all of your backgrounds and experience and the willingness to help others out if you can. If any of you guys get in a bind with your airborne recon aircraft, be sure to give me a holler....cuz thats about all I know, how to run and maintain mission systems. Again, thanks guys...

that's about what i'd charge....say 1200...plus...nobody wants to crawl in the attic, nobody wants to fish wires, and gfi breakers are a bit pricey...AFCI's are code in SC, and they'll fail you ever time if you don't...
