Fellow SRT'ers need your help,

My 05 QC (26k on it) has become possessed ... it runs on after shutting it down and even removing the key. It stops by itself after 3-5 minutes. I need to use it tomorrow to haul my bike to the track so hoping someone knows a quick fix. Or what is the best way to kill the engine when this happens?

Otherwise the truck is fine, runs okay, starts as normal :(

Wow I would like to know as well since I just rolled over 26000 today on my 05 QC. Hopefully someone has heard of this and will chime in.

Smother it. :D

Loosen the hose from the throttle body and when you want it to die, cover the opening to the throttle body with something that won't get sucked in. :dontknow:

First check to see if it is throwing a code: turn the ignition key on and off three times and on the third move, leave it on. What is the code in the display in the dash? Let us know.

Second, and maybe even first, disconnect your negative terminal on your battery and leave it disconnected for about 10 minutes. Then reconnect it. (Use a 10mm wrench) That will reboot your computer. Then start it again and see if the problem persists.

That's one reason I like my R/C - they come with a kill switch ................. called a clutch :D

Or leave it in gear when you shut it off - this used to work on my old Buick 455 :dontknow:

LOL! Too right. I know a farming guy who had a fork for a key for his POS shit farm truck, water on the floor, just a real farm beater, basically a good hauler for hay etc, anyhow, it would start but never turn off. So, his way of turning it off was to park it near the house and stall it every time..... hardcase to think about lol.

Thanks for the suggestions ... will let you know tomorrow

Sorry for not getting back, was busy getting ready for tomorrow, will experiment with the truck tomorrow in the wee hours.

Indeed a manual tranny would have been easier ... I don't think I can remove the key in gear. Will try to get a code and reset the computer. I did notice the first time the alarm light stayed on but later it did not. Maybe the alarm is screwing things up?

Reboot the pcm...then do the ignition on-off thing to see if a code appears in your odometer window.

We will help!

Error codes ... P1686

Whilst yesterday there were no codes, even after reset. Today, after doing some 150 miles, the codes came up:

P0443 Evap Purge Solenoid Circuit
P0645 A/C Clutch Relay Circuit Performance
P1282 Fuel Pump Relay Control Circuit or
P1282 Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor 2 Low Voltage
P1686 No SKIM BUS Messages Received

Maybe P1686 with the SKIM is causing this? Something to do with the security / alarm system. Looks like a visit to the dealer :(

LMAO! You idiot! :p

Have you been on or around the steering column at all mucking around? Just a wild guess is all, maybe the immobiliser and partner "reader" have been bumped or something so the truck is reading the transponder messages wrong. I doubt it, just throwing some ideas out there.

There does not seem to be a central theme in the codes. You are having some sort of reader issue. One of the codes could relate to the initial problem, but the rest are strange. I think a trip to the dealer is in order.

At dealer ... will let you

I have no mods apart from cold air kit from K&N, never had to reset the PCM since then (@250 miles). So nothing done to the ignition key, steering column area etc. Its a daily driver not much abuse ... mostly floor it for high speed roll-ons to teleport away from traffic :)

Dealer started looking at it late this afternoon, probably spent a little over an hour when I called and so far no idea what it could be. Confirmed codes are bogus ... I recall when I had engine codes associated with the tranny after the 15k fluid change I also had funny codes whereas it was the hydraulic logic unit (forgot the proper name) that was replaced under warranty.

Will let you know how this story ends: hopefully tomorrow and for not much $$$!

PCM changed out

Got the truck back now ... dealer changed PCM under warranty and it seemed to do the trick. Glad it was covered :)

But... But... #1900 did that about a week and a half ago when I was having electronic issues (later found it was the alarm).. I shut off the ignition and pulled the key and she continued running nonstop until I aggressively pumped the gas.. Then, after a few minutes and a puff of smoke from the dash cluster, she has been running fine since (except her door locks are no longer automatic by any means). But any issues with the door locks will be handled after Panama City this coming week.
