Hey guys,

My truck is in at the shop after we found fluid leaking on my driveway from the clutch area. It's around the shop for the ease of the hoist, plus I told them to install my B&B exhaust, Justin @ JMBs stage 3 traction kit, Beltronics XR950 Radar hardwired and Raptor shift light while it's in there. :p Anyhow, I did a tonne of research but didn't feel 100% on anything to give the shop a list of the fluid brands and weights, so left it for today. I said I'd ask you guys and see what you think. First of all, I know opinions vary, all I'm after is safety. More hp/T etc is of no concern, just want my engine, trans and diff running comfortably.

From my research, this is what I have so far. Does it look right?
I will also get a full service done to the truck for peace of mind.

Engine Oil = Royal Purple 5-W40 Synthetic - 10 Quarts
Diff Oil = Royal Purple 5-W40 Synthetic - 3 Quarts
Trans Fluid = Royal Purple Sychromax - 4 Quarts (What weight? Or is it simply called "Sychromax"?)

I've thought about getting Mobile 1 Synthetic, the oil plug on the valve cover says Mobile but I'm not sure. The air/weather temp in my area is around 65-85F in summer and around 40-60F in winter. Also, I noticed a few of you guys with manuals (T56) are running Mobile 1 ATF. WTF!?! I didn't know you could run automatic fluid in a manual trans.

I've also got two new filters. 1 Black OEM oil filter (Part # 05281090) and 1 White "Viper logo" oil filter (Part # 05037836AA). I was told last year to get the Viper one, how ever, while doing research today it seems everyone is going back to the factory OEM black one LOL. Which do you recommend I use? I heard the Viper (white one) has made noise before? It's been around 2,000miles since it's last service but I want to start fresh here in New Zealand.

Cheers,
Carl

Carl your 5w-30 should be fine for you climate as far as engine oil

the tranny you can use either royal purple atf, mobil 1 atf, or redline c4 atf, makes the tranny shift tons easier, some dont agree and say stick with syncromesh, but its your choice.

but on the rear axle you need a 75w-90 wieght oil in the rear not a 5/30;)
Royal purple makes this also

Thanks guys, Tony, I noticed all the ones you listed a automatic fluids, that's real odd but if you guys say so, hey, it's good enough for me! I may go with Mobile/Royal 1 ATF for the trans, Royal Purple 5w-30 for the engine and trans, sound good? Hopefully I can buy the RP locally, I'm sure I can.

Carl, if you have warranty issues...you need to be careful. Use of lubricants other than the ones dictated by the manufacturer can void your warranty.

You will note that when you drain your transmission fluid...the factory stuff is more like grease than oil. Most of us have changed, but that can void your warranty and you will have no recourse.

I have gone to RP for everything...using Tony's viscosity recommendations.

Good luck...

Your transmission issues may well be resolved when you find your fluid leak...I bet it is the clutch master or slave cyl. Go to the Viper ones, they are billet not plastic...everything will be better with that modification.

Thanks mate, as Moparracing mentioned I upgraded to the Viper master slave & cylinder prior to getting my truck, centerforce clutch etc. Shifted nicely prior to my gear engagement hiccup. No warranty to worry about, I'm not usually worried about warranties etc and I think I may run in trouble here with a US truck bought into NZ, not sure but the warrnty issue is sweet as, thanks. :) I may look at Royal Purple all round, I prefer to stick to one brand for my car rather than mix and match but, if one is better for something I'll go that way.

Cheers,
Carl
