I am hoping there is some knowledge on this forum about tankless water heaters. Are they good, are they bad? Please fill me in, perhaps others on here could learn something as well... I am considering going that route and wanted to see if anybody currently has one, etc. Thanks guys.

NO IDEA... :dontknow: ........ I've been out of the "builder" game for too long (about 6 years). ....... I am interested to see what everyone says on this topic. :)

i have one, they are the GREATEST thing ever....what they do is allow you to take a 20 min shower and not have to worry about the recycle time, u turn on the hot tap, and its hot all day long, plus there very small in size..... like a big brief case, if you want i can send a pic of the one we have

i love it and HIGHLY recommend them

you mean those LPG GAS used at home? Here in Italy are really common today. There are some good and some bad. My one really sucks: if you open the shower let's say WOT, you won't get really hot water. I'm gonna change it soon

yes, please do. post a pic. that would be great....thanks..

Three of my buddies have them and say they are the answer and would never go back to a HWT,hot water on demand all day long,no waiting after the wife or the dishwasher! I will be switching out here soon! And also cheaper to use, don't have to pay to keep a big tank hot all day and night!

Well cheaper down the road,, just not up front.. they charged me around 4K for it, but i guess it does replace the two tanks i had in the last house.

If possible, you may want to have them relocated closer to the bathroom or kitchen. If you put them where your hot water tank currently is, you'll still have to wait for the hot water to get to the shower. All the cold water sitting in the pipes still has to flow out. With the tankless in close proximity, the hot water is almost instantaneous.

Tankless is the way to go!!

During the recovery efforts after the WTC collapse, there was a tractor trailer with 16 shower stalls in it, all with a small tankless in each. The rescue/recovery workers had the showers runnning practically 24/7 and no one ever took a cold shower!

I was planning on changing my tank out to a tankless, until I lost my job. :( Now, it will have to wait.

Bosch are good Steve? Aren't they available at HD too!?

I beleive the only down side to them is you need a oustide wall to direct vent the unit. Depending on your location you will need to be a certain height above grade. In Calgary code is 18in above the outside finished grade. As far a every plumber I have talked to about quotes in the last couple of houses I have done have suggested to go to them. I dont remember what brand just go to a plumbing wholesaler and they will tell you what unit is the best bang for your buck.

I sell and install these there are some MAJOR cons to them cost wise, most have to do with sticking them in a older home. The major draw back is the electric ones draw so many amps that normally your service has to be replaced to install them, when it's on it's drawing almost 120amps(most have 2 serrate 240v 60amp circuits), most large homes only have a 200amp service panel. That means to install one you almost always have to add or replace your breaker panel (around 1500$), have one if not two circuits ran (300$ a piece), and you have to relocate where it sits so it can go near an outside wall (Building code).

If your having a new home built, 100% go for it (gas one if possible). If you have an old home you need to think about how long you plan on staying there, if the answer is less than 10 years I wouldn't get one.

sounds like the electric bill could be up the roof with 120a draw! I have a 80 gallon gas and its cheap...dunno...

u can get them in gas or elec...ours is gas...sry bout the delay in getting the pics up, work has been a bitch

Only on when in use! Doesn't toggle on and off like a Hot water heater so you save on electricity!

Yes the Bosch units are available at HD.
I like this thing so much that if I could figure out some way to install it in my truck as a power adder I would:confused: :D
