Exaust Help

I called Roe today. They were felt that I would be fine with any header. They felt that header choice was really a matter of preference more than function. In there opinnion there was only a few HP difference among all of them. The price difference on the other hand is quite high.

So I am leaning heavily towards the Bassani. They are 990.00 ish, nearly equal length, mate up to the stock exaust, and they are ceramic coated. I can cut out the back cats and weld in new high flows, thus keeping the midpipes. All of this is still cheaper than some of the headers only.

Is there a disadvantage to just replacing the muffler with a highflow over doing a complete catback system?

Thanks,
Dale

Every little things adds up. So if you just get a new better flowing muffler, then it helps. If you can get someone to remove the rear cats, then it helps. Same for if you can drop the fronts or at least replace them with Hi-flows. So to answer your question, I don't think there is a disadvantage to only changing your muffler. Before I had the turbo I had the front stock cats, rear cats taken off and just 2 borla mufflers. I loved it. A lot of this stuff is about doing what you want.

I think I asked it wrong.

I will do the high flows and the headers.

Do I need to change the cat back system, or can I just change the muffler?

Thanks,
Dale

If you are going with high flows and headers, you should go with cat-back. With a catback system you with get 3" exhaust to match the (now installed) headers. Think of it this way...if you have a 2" hose but a 1" spout, the water will be bottle-necked and only exit 1" at a time, but you upgrade that to 2" and not the while system works together. Same thing applies here, your header collection (were all the head tubes come together) will be 3" but your exhaust will be stock (2.5 If I remember correctly).

How do I know if a long tube is equal length? Are the Belanger or Mopar? From my untrained eye, I would say no. Would the equal length ones be the ones looking like pretzels?

Thanks for the info everyone.

Enjoy the Ride,
Dale

Dale - For the most part yes, a header that is equal length will be all twisted up... here is a link to the pics of the custom made equals on my sandcar..

I was just getting ready to ask the question of Mopar vs. Bellanger and I found this thread; great info here. I am leaning towards the Bellangers and mids with high flows, as I don't think my existing mid setup from Boomer will work with the long tubes. Anyway, I do have a concern with the Bellangers rusting, but will discuss that with the manufacturer. Also, from what I have read, the Bellangers and mids for the QC WILL work with the Magnaflow catback, right?

If you're worried about the headers rusting have them shipped to Jet Hot or one of the hi-temp coating guys when you order them so they get all coated before you even see them. Either one will work with your manaflow cat back, assuming you also get the appropriate mids.

Thanks Steve. Wife just mentioned another cruise (we have been on 3 in the last three years) for 08. I told her we needed to take a break for 07 to recuperate financially. Actually I need mod money!:D Headers seems like a nice compliment to my current set-up, and since I will eventually be going the SC route, I will need them anyway.......see, perfect justification.
