Factory Roof "Antenna" Thing

Hi guys,


A quick question and sorry about posting another simple one today but when you have a passion for something, you always like to know every detail. You understand. Anywho, what is the roof "antenna thing" on our trucks? I'm guessing it's a roof antenna of some sort. What does it actually do and has anyone removed them? Anything behind it or is it a 3M/Magnet style one due to it being some kind of GPS position beacon? Doesn't bother me, just curious is all. While I was searching for a reference photo (I don't have any good angels and didn't find anything good enough to post) it seems as though it may only be an 06 thing? My truck never came with any navigation and it now has an aftermarket system. My guess is it's either alarm or nav related, just not sure what.

Thanks guys, so removing it is OK as mine no longer has the factory alarm and/or radio, it won't through anything else off will it? What "should" be under it? If there are wires and a hole I'll definitely leave it in place.

don't take it off unless you don't think you'll ever have sirus.. i'd keep it in the garage or something and if all else fails down the road you can always mount it in your bed!

more than likely there will be a hole i think but i'm not sure wait till someone else posts lol

If it's the factory sirus then there will be a big hole under it...

I'm pretty sure it's worldwide being Satellite mate lol But, I never listen to the radio unless it's in a work vehicle (no choice). It's engine, iPod or Cd (in that order) for me.
