Failed Emissions Today

In Georgia, they do emissions testing just by checking the PCM for codes using the OBD II port. There is no "sensor in the tail pipe" checks. Today I failed emissions bucause the test said the computer (PCM) was NOT READY. There were no codes. I'm assuming that I interrupted power to the PCM last week when I pulled the Number 51 circuit breaker (the black one) in the under-hood fuse panel. This turns off under the hood light. I don't know for sure if this interrupts power to the PCM, but that's the only one I messed with. Does anyone know if this breaker interrupts power to the PCM? If so, I'll just have to put on a few more miles until it is "Ready". I have a Stage II flash from X-Metal. A flashed PCM won't stop me from passing emissions, will it? Thanks in advance.

I would suggest replacing the flashed PCM with your OEM (stock original) PCM.... Flashed PCM prolly is setting off the "not ready" condition..

Silly emissions crap.. here in Ohio, it's necessary is almost every county EXCEPT for a few including Franklin.. home of Columbus and also the home of the idiots making the laws. I guess they don't want to bother with it since the air in the state capital is so clean. WTF?!

Sounds like you need to re install the stock computer. Here is another reason for the new guys to buy the controller vs just the flash.

Fortunatly on Maui we have 0 testing!!!

The test is picking up an error code. You just need to unhook your battery for 10-15 minutes to clear the code.

I had mine tested with a stage II pcm and had no problems. If you have an error code stored you will fail regardless of which pcm you are running.

Speak for yourself Jack... ....testing in TN is a county issue....fortunely there is no testing in my county even though we have been cited by the feds for not meeting min air quality standards.........the county did ask the state to slow traffic on I-81 & I-26 to 65MPH (which they did) where the 2 roads pass thru Sullivan county...this is supposed to help air quality..:dontknow:

No, there are no codes. The test basically said the PCM was Not Ready to even offer codes. I believe this is what happens when you have a power interruption to the PCM - keeps people from clearing their codes right before they go for the test.

Tim is correct I think. Reboot your pcm by disconnecting the negative terminal of your battery (10mm) for a few minutes...would bet that would solve your problem.

you do not need to unplugged your pcm... what happens is your pcm has several emission monitors. they run these monitors and if one of them fails the test is when you receive a check engine light. it sounds like you recently lost power to your pcm which would have cleared your monitors... you will automatically fail if your monitors have not run. you need to drive your vehicle under several different driving habits. drive on the highway for a good 35 minutes and then drive in the city (stop and go) for about the same. this will allow the pcm to run the monitors. you do not need to install your original pcm, unless the flashed pcm eliminated these monitors. the only pcm that i know of that will eliminate these monitors is the mopar performance pcm. i know dc does not eliminate the monitors unless requested. hope this helps... next time you go in to have the test run, have them check to see if the monitors have run before having it tested.

after you restart the pcm you have to drive like 50 miles to be ready. i tried to clear the codes from my sierra to get it inspected and only drove it 10-15 miles and it showed not ready... just put some miles on it and try again..

Update - Drove it about 40 miles and went back. He connected to the OBD II and looked at the PCM. Originally there were 4 or 5 items that said NOT READY, now there are only 2. I'll put a few more miles on it and give it another try.

i bought one of those MAC hand held mini readers.it has throwed a couple of codes & the reader takes them right out.
just put the Belanger's on with cat mids. hopin it will pass if they just check one tail pipe.
