Flywheel weight

I had the Fidanza for over 3 years in my truck and loved it. I have an 04 RC but with 4.56 gears. I am trying the Mcleod Twin Disc clutch and they recommended a steel flywheel...so far I went quicker with the Fidanza (12.024 vs 12.27 with twin disc) but that was also Sacramento vs Famoso too. I will be at the May 9th GTG in Sacramento and run the McLeod Twin Disc at Sacramento for the first time.....going for 11.99....Brad you better be there to film that run!!!!!!!!
hmmm, seems to dis-prove the heavier flywheel @ the track argument. ;)

regardless, it seems like more of a personal choice.:)

Road track is the reference not a drag strip.

Light weight is wonderful for quick high revs, and rapid rpm decline as one needs in a road course.

trainman's reference is that the fidanza had better times on the drag strip - not road course.....

Its steel , so its probably about the same weight as the stocker. I was using a Fidanza Aluminum flywheel and single disc Centerforce clutch when I turned the 12.024 @ 112.58 in Sacramento on 1-17-09. I now have a McLeod Twin disc clutch.

Thanks...I found a link to drag times. These are the results..Sacramento 1-17-09 at 3PM DA=319 ft. Actual time 12.024@ 112.58, corrected time [email protected]. So that was a good day. Famoso raceway 2-28-09 at 3PM DA 1709 ft. Actual time 12.279 @ 112.42, corrected time 12.043 @ 114.671. Maybe the flywheel is not hurting me as much as I thought....What do you guys think? Thanks again ARRESTmeRed

So maybe not a true Heavy flwheel as I stated , i think about 75lbs would do.
We will see what happens in Sacremento verses Famoso with the not so heavy flywheel. ;) ;)

for the most part, the above says it just doesn't matter which flywheel you choose to use........ looks like it's a personal choice, but there's no difference. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

i think the key to being successful with the fidanza on the street is by having 4.88's. i have no issues with traffic. on a flat surface i can just let the clutch out and i'm moving. i never had the fidanza with the 4.10's so i cant comment for those with that setup.

I HATE IT!!! If I had the chance to do it again I'd probably stick with OEM. Yes the Fidanza revs up quicker, but for some reason she seems stronger with the OEM flywheel installed. You know what? I think I'm going to just go for it and have an OEM flywheel re-installed.

Good decision!

While you have the trans out, just go ahead and forge the engine and add a couple of turbos too!

Roy I studied this plan both :deal:logically and mathematically. I just cannot understand how removing the tranny has anything remotely to do with installing forged engine internals and a couple turbos.

Seat of the pants feel was much better with the Fidanza flywheel...for example: I could be driving in 2nd gear at about 20-25 mph and just punch the throttle and break the tires loose at will (street tires, Kumho 325-40-22's) and now with the twin disc Mcleod and steel flywheel they won't break loose, just bog a little and then accelerate. Truck felt more responsive with the Fidanza.

Same thing happens with my truck too. Of course I have the 4.88 gears. I am actually surprised how often I scratch the tires going into third gear!

:dito: i never could scratch 3rd until i had the fidanza. now its cake!!!:D

I had Fidanza with the 4.10's and didn't really like it
when I went to 4.56 I went back to a stock flywheel and liked it much better
Now that I have 4.88's,I would like to see how a Fidanza would feel

(also thinking of going back to 4.56's  )

if its not going to hurt your pockets, try it. i think you'll love it!

W.... Well, all these posts are completely contradictory to what I said earlier. Maybe it's just me, maybe I should drive her harder by shifting higher than 3,000 rpm's for a change to see how the Fidanza really works. :dontknow: Hell, maybe I'll eventually get up enough nerve to take it up to 5,200 rpm's and finally see my shift light come on.

Try 6000 rpm power shift like me:rock:
