For NYS residents wadda ya think bout this?

mine was 5601 pounds so i had to lose 101 pounds. not much of a restriction just watch out for cops on the parkways, but you have to do that anyway!!!

cops aren't going to know the truck is commercial just by looking at it...they can only tell by the plate, get a good cover for that, thats all you need to do.

Some of the truck stops have scales as well as the state police weigh stations....A guy told me once that they will give you a receipt with an official stamp on it.

I would remove the tonneau cover and the trailer hitch...I have been through this before and got it done through them (dmv)....They have a tech team that checks and titles /vin numbers in cases of custom vehicles( I built a chopper one time from scratch none of the numbers matched...I remember they weighed it and titled it)...I live in NY. also.

By the way I am 15 minutes from TATORS dodge...All I hear is good things...He is listed vas a VEC installer.He answers e-mail as well as the phone...He also runs how-to clinics...He quoted me $200.00 to change fluid /filter and adjust the bands in the trans.I thought that was fair including the fluid and filter.

Maybe you can go back to DMV with almost empty gas and remove the spare tire. It should be weight less than 5500

maybe I should change my "QC VIPER" plate to say "COMMERCIAL VIPER"

too bad that won't fit :-(

I was looking up SMOG laws in cali, and it seems that 99% of them only apply to non-commercial vehicles. hmmmm

and since I don't own a diesel, the other laws don't seem to apply either.

Strange though, I know my truck does not fall into this category:
A commercial motor vehicle is a motor vehicle or combination of vehicles designed or used for either the transportation of persons for compensation or property and:

* Has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more.
* Tows any vehicle with a GVWR of 10,001 pounds or more.
* Tows more than one vehicle or a trailer bus.
* Has three or more axles (excludes three axle vehicles weighing 6,000 pounds or less gross).
* Is any vehicle (bus, farm labor vehicle, general public paratransit vehicle, etc.) designed, used, or maintained to carry more than 10 passengers including the driver, for hire or profit, or is used by any nonprofit organization or group.
* Transports hazardous materials requiring placarding.*
* Transports hazardous wastes (Health and Safety Code §§25115 and 25117).*

The maximum speed limit in California is 55 miles per hour (mph) for the following listed vehicles (VC §22406):
55 MPH speed limit sign

* Any truck or truck tractor having three or more axles.
* Any vehicle pulling any other vehicle.
* A school bus transporting any pupil.
* A farm labor vehicle transporting passengers.
* Any vehicle transporting explosives.
* A trailer bus
