I found and ordered a 160 Degree Stant 160 Degree in Stock. I had one on order at Amazon, but kept being delayed...

So I did some research and found that ROCKAUTO.COM has them in stock, mine shipped today, and will be here May 12.

Cost was 20.79, plus shipping.

Its easy to find on their site, just use their drop down menu and scroll to our trucks!! :)

For some reason I'm thinking you dont want to go that cool with a thermostat. I thought somebody told me once that these aluminum engines need some heat in them. I could be wrong. Running too cool can also hurt performance?

Maybe in states where heat is not an issue... but here where our average summer temps are 110 degrees or more...

It was only 92 today... and even with the 170, and Boomers Fan Kit, I still sit around 195-198 all the time.. and if I am sitting at a light... she goes 205-208 range... drops back to 195-198 when I start moving after about 30 seconds... I would like to get it into the 180's however...

I noticed that the truck runs waaayyy better when its cooler... so I am going to try it..

BE INTERESTED TO SEE IF THAT REALLY MAKES A DIFF.I PUT A 170 IN MINE AND STILL RUNS ABOUT 200 IN TRAFFIC.ON THE HIGHWAY OR AT NIGHT SHE RUNS AROUND 180'ISH.POST UP ON HOW IT WORKS!!

A temp drop of that much can hurt the engin, the mottor is designed to run a full temp. If the engine never heats up you will have excisive wear and possibly a cel. I rember when we started changing out the stats on the hemi's we found a cel that comes on if you truck doensn't reach temp. in a certain time...

This is because your fans are still kicking on at the high temp. You would have to modify your PCM to kick the fans on earlier if you want to run cooler over all. All the thermo does is open the coolant flow 10 degrees earlier, but when you are in traffic that does not matter, you need the airflow through the radiator to cool the hot coolant.

I would expect it to run about 200-205 in traffic. But I should be able to cool it down to 180-190 for normal running...

Now the only time that I have ever been able to really cool it down is on the highway at about 70mph, and I run for 15-20 miles, during our winter season here (which is in the 60-70's) then I have been able to get her to come down to 170-180 range...

Notice in my mod list.. I have the PCM program from DC for Blower Flash which does cycle the fan on earlier.

I have heard this also.. but I believe that these motors run hot anyhow.. and they pull timing out at 205...

I will keep an eye on the temps... and if there are any CELS that come on...

As I mentioned, this may not be a good mod for all.. just those of us that live in areas where extreme heat is a norm... a typical summer day here from June to August will range from 108-118.. our hottest day ever has been 124...

Those who dont deal with those temps.. probably can not fathom what its like...

But I just can not imagine the motor not being able to warm up to operating temps when its an oven outside allready...

I also noticed that as the temps come up to 205-210 range.. (I have a AutoTap that I sometimes drive around with) I lose power.. so I know the thing is pulling timing out...

it's pulling timing because at higher temps it leans out a little (and gets better gas mileage and emissions as well)

so since gas mileage doesn't really matter in these trucks, I'd probably opt to run cooler also. At the track, my truck runs about .3-.5 seconds faster if the motor is cold.

I have noticed that also.. I run quickest times as well with the motor not being heat soaked. Now if I could only recover my traction!!:D

do you race at fireslick?

I used to... several years ago..when I lived on that side of town.. now its like a 45 mile drive for me to get there...

Now I race at Speedworld Motorplex, which is about 4 miles from house...:D

Yeah I couldn't see a 160 hurting. I used my QC all winter here in Alberta, nothing below -10 C and she loved it, lots of go-go in her. Now that summer is here and were getting 25C to 30C temps it feels different, mainly in traffic though.
