Hey folks,

Well i dropped my truck off at the stealership today to have the last bolt
hole for the header rethreaded. They quoted me at $181.. However,
they said they just "lifted" the truck up off the ground and my front
drivers side shock just started "leaking" for no apparent reason.... Keep
in mind i drove it there fine. They quoted me $150 for the shock alone
without the labor. Now i'm pretty sure they just tried to screw me over
twice but i'm wondering what i can do about this. First do the shocks
actually just start to leak like that? secondly i probly need some suggestions
as to what to replace the shocks in the front with

Regards,

Andrew

thats about right for the stock bilstein shock msrp is 156.00. i don't see how they would try and screw you over with a shock. just my .02

Well i mean, does a shock normally just start leaking like that without any
damage to it?

i've seen it before. but did it just start leaking or has it been and they noticed it when they lifted the vehicle?

From what i understand it started to leak when they lifted the truck off
the ground.. That's why i'm a little suspicious. I mean, this weekend when
i was working on the headers i had the front drivers side wheel off
and there was nothing visually wrong with it. Even when i was driving over
to the dealership this morning i didn't feel anything odd about the suspension

the bilstein is a nitrous charged shock, with oil for lubrication, personally i dont see it just start leaking, , they are known to seap a little, best thing is bring it home , or have them remove it in your presence.

see how bad the 'leak" is, but also check the shock, see if its still charged, it will actually extend itself if it is still working properly.

if so, leave it be, drive it a little see if it gets any worse.

if so , there are too many vendors here that can help you with a replacement.

but I persoanlly would stick with bilstein, you just cant get any better than them;)

Hey Andrew, If you need a front shock or two there should be plenty of Members with some take offs they would sell cheap.

Gentlemen, thank you for the replies :) Stinker, i thought there was something
odd about the shock just starting to "leak fluid".. Then i did some reading
and found out that the blistens are indeed gas charged so i'm gonna
mention it to the man who brought it up and see what kind of explination
he can come up with..

Regards,

Andrew

Shocks leak...nothing new. They have to start sometime. If its a nonwarranty repair they are required to return you the leaking shock. A general observation can tell you if it is in fact leaking. As for it being gas charged...He's not going to offer you any other explanation other than it was leaking. Besides I'm certain our factory Bilsteins are emulsion type and not a de-carbon type of shock considering retail price is only $150. Emulsion type shocks are pretty generic. In a de-carbon type shock you'll have far greater build quality particularly with seals and valving.
