Made it half way through our poker run today..

Then I realized my truck was dragging, pulling to the right, and the caliper was locked hard enough to keep the truck stopped by itself while on a hill.

Pulled off the caliper, put rotor back on, gonna ride home with the brake line capped off..

Looks like time for replacement calipers...
 
The dealership can get rebuild kits and replacement pistons if necessary. Might as well get them powdercoated if you were thinking about a color change while they are apart too. :D
 
This was just rebuilt by the previous owner. Apparently that didn't work...

I didn't rebuild it just took them apart and cleaned them really good.;) Sounds like a rebuild is in order though. I wondered how long it would last with me just cleaning them:dontknow:
 
I'm not upset, or blaming Kyle. :)

It is what it is.. We were out driving aggressively, and it did what he warned me about.

I see this as an opportunity!

Kyle-I do have a couple of questions about the hub you just replaced. Which one was it? I noticed after I got the truck home, with the brake caliper still removed, that the passenger front hub has substantially more drag than the other. Also, what prompted you to replace it? Was it the vibration in the front end at speed? It's gonna drive me crazy soon, LOL! I hope it's the tires, but any information you may have will definitely help.
 
I priced that out a few months ago.

To buy the rebuild kit to re-seal all 4 pistons and to replace all 4 pistons it was only like $40 better than just buying a refabbed one from rockauto.com that already comes powdercoated.

I got mine for $250 each side...

I replaced the driver side hub assembly.;) It had a terrible vibration and cleared right up after I replaced it. The passenger side was a little harder to roll but it wasn't making any noise and it wasn't loose at all so I left it alone.

I believe I paid right at $200 for the driver side maybe a little less.:)
 
Can you describe the vibration? Vehicle speed, engine load, accelerating/decelerating, up hill/down hill...

I have way more vibration than my buddies 05 (HWMECH)..

I beleive I posted a thread about it a few months back LOL!

It sounded like it had mud tires on it. Thats the best way for me to describe it. It cleared up after I replaced the driver side hub assembly.

I will say that if the caliper on that side was hanging on you it probably got VERY HOT so it could have siezed the bearing a little on the passenger side hub.:dontknow:

Jack the front up, put it on jack stands and spin that wheel as fast as you can by hand and see what it sounds like.;)

5 days apparently. great cleaning job
 
I have it on jack stands now. Brakes removed from the front.

I know I've got a couple of torn boots on ball joints, tie rod ends are a little rough.. Normal wear for a truck this heavy at 71,000 miles really.

I plan on slowly going through all of these things to tighten her up a little bit. Probably replace all bushings with poly units.

I checked the passenger side hub, it'll need replacing. I haven't checked the drivers side yet. Do that tonight...
 
Id probably replace the other front hub. I just had mine replaced with the Moog ones from Rock auto. Not to expensive. I think they where about $120 each and you can find 5% discount online. And shouldnt cost to much to replace, unless they are almost totally seized like both of mine where and you have to remove the entire spindle and use lots of heat and two air hammers for about 30 min each. But everything is all good now. Runs smooth as can be.
 
...I just went through this, the all it needed was the fluid flushed. Water in the brake fluid heats under extreme braking, thats when mine were getting sticky.
 
Definitely going to feed and bleed the system when the new calipers go on.

Did you have vibration? What were your symptoms?

I know I need to replace the passenger front, even if its only because of the extra drag. It requires constant force to turn. It will not spin with out effort.

Hopefully I'll eliminate the vibration at the same time.
 
I could feel a little bit of vibration, especially when loading the one side, like when i was turning. And i could hear a noise that sounded kind of like mud tires on a highway, that got louder when turning as well.

I cleaned them first part of March FYI;) Used the truck as a DD for 3 weeks straight up until the day he picked it up and never had a problem.

I warned him about it so there's no need to try and start some drama:)
