Well my wife is heading out of town for a few days with the kids:rock:

I was going to clean the truck when she was gone but I have a streak of 8 months with out washing it so I want to keep that alive:D
FYI...brake dust can be used to powdercoat rims:p :burnout:

So here is whats going on for the Viper...

First a little weight reduction - visors, spare tire, sound deadening, etc...

clean the inside!!!!! mostly just dusty

then jacking the car up, all 4 wheels coming off and going to clean and polish the rims, clean inside the rims, clean out the wheel wells and underneath the car.
next, headlamp restoration, I have a bunch of oxidation so hopefully I can get them clean!!!

On to washing the car, basic wash on the outside.
then on to the engine bay, I am going to use Simple Green MAX. I sprayed it in my wifes yukon engine bay to test it and it worked good.

then comes the clay!!!!! Turtle wax liquid clay, I really liked the way it worked when I used it last time
Wax...Meguires NXT I am going to put 2 coats on.

I am going to get into every groove on the car, restore all the vinyl on the outsode windows, hopefully I can get it back to showrood condition!

I have 3 days so I will be busy, prolly have a few cigars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will get some pics and keep you guys posted, if you have no interest in this thread then dont read anymore:p
so wednesday the fun begins:bebored: :D

HEADLAMP RESTORATION ----
Some of the better parts stores have a product called "Flitz"
it comes in a small tube and you use it like wax. It will clear up
fogged headlight covers and make them look great.

A claybar with some elbow grease will take off just about any oxidation on headlamps too...

Just something I'll throw in in case you didnt know.

If you ever drag race the Viper, keep the spare in the back...its actually meant to be there in case of a rear end crash or in drag racing if you hit the wall, it should help absorb the impact in the back of the car.

This public service announcement was brought to you by Dave T(BADVENM), sole sponsor of the #6 Team Incidental Contact '86 Ford Mustang :)

Dave - how are you doing? I read up on removing the spare and found that it is part of the crash structure on RT/10s(so the rear deck lid doesn't decapitate anyone). I have a GTS and have seen in a few spots that it can be removed and is not an integral part of the crash structure. I guess better safe than sorry. I will do some more research.

I will try the "flitz" stuff. I already tried one kit and it didn't work out to well...

Portland I thought you couldn't clay the headlights??? I was going to use it on my windshield!

Don't forget the Wheel wells and the under carriage, plus the back sides of the rims.

Sure, you can clay your headlamps. Clay won't hurt anything... I clay just about everything on my truck. It's the best thing you can use to keep your paint and glass like new.

Great point... In fact, when I wash my cars,, I spend more time on the wheels and wheel wells than I do the actual paint... Nothing worse than a super clean truck with dirty wheel wells and brake dust on the inner part of the wheel.... I always follow with a liberal amount of tire foam on the wheel wells..

Good luck with your detailing duties...it's lot of work but well worth it afterwards...Please post pics when done...See ya...

One thing I noticed with my truck this winter when I was installing my SC was how much crap accumulates onto the top of the plastic piece on the bottom side of the front bumper. I pulled mine off and plan to clean it before I put it back on, it is held in with a bazillion little bolts. Might be worthwhile pulling it off as well.

Alright fellas already got started...

Intake is out and cleaned already, I need to clean the K&Ns so that will be tomorow, spare tire is out and it is filthy underneath!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think I may end up taking a few things apart:D just to see what lies beneath the dirt and grime!!!!!!!!
Pics will be coming soon of the car before the cleaning!!!!

PS this may require the beer mod, its going to be a long 3 days:elefant: :nurse: :D
