Pretty good article from 2009 by Jay Leno, a guy who knows a thing or two about collectible cars. Jay Leno Predicts Future Collectible and Classic Cars - Popular Mechanics

One of the best things he says in regards to cars is to DRIVE THEM!

"People ask me if they should buy a new car and tuck it away as an investment. I think it's ridiculous to buy something and just squirrel it away. The fuel will eventually go bad, all the moving parts will still have to be lubricated, and you still have to insure it. Cars should be driven. If you let a car sit, you'll eventually have to flush the fuel system, replace the electronics and more. Buying any car and putting it into storage for years gets you nothing. It's a bad idea. You won't be buying something you like--you're just trying to make money."

I like too that he mentions a 6 speed Caddy CTS-V will be a future collectible because of its combination of name, power, and most companies are going away from manual transmissions. That's worth noting with the RC versions of our trucks. Imagine in 30 years when a young adult is like "A truck with a Viper engine with a 6 speed manual? Holy crap!"

I'm one of the ones who thinks our trucks will be collectibles. They carry the Mopar tradition, they were revolutionary, they share the iconic Viper engine, they are absurd trucks built for nothing but speed, they have the looks/style, limited production with many biting the dust every year, more rare when you consider they came either QC or RC unlike the L which all are RC and auto. Potentially to never be built again. In my opinion, still the fastest street production trucks in history (I refuse to give credit to that Australian car/truck thing).

great read:rock::rock::rock:

yeah I thought it was a well written article. Rather than some writer who has never owned any nice cars or collectibles, having an acutal collector who knows the business do the article was smart and a good perspective.

Back in the mid 70's we watched a lot of Chargers, Challengers, GTX's, Roadrunners Etc go to the junkyard because gas was to expensive and "Why should we fix these? No one will ever want one!!"

Sure would like to have them now.

If nobody had junked them, would they still be so sought after??? I got mine to hold onto for years to come. I do howerever enjoy it now. Because if something happens to me in the mean time I dont want it to be a wasted investment :D

I'd love to be able to have 2 SRT-10 trucks. A regular cab and my QC...

Wish I would have kept just a couple of my MOPARS from late 60s-early 70s just to be able to fire em up & drive from time to time. Everybody wants to say what great cars they were but, truth is, we were lucky to have survived them! Most couldn't stop worth a crap, definitely couldn't corner without major butt puckering, etc. But, we loved them, abused, babyed, crashed, fixed, list goes on. Love my 10, most fun, all around, vehicle I have had..

My dad at one point in the 80's had 3 60's SS Camaros. Parked them in front of his house. Came home from work one day and the engines were gone and frames burned. He says he never would have gotten rid of them for anything if that hadn't happened and said he would have given one to me. I'd kill to have one. Black on black with white race stripes. Yes please!
