For sale very few miles . shifts great ! I just can't take the harmonics. Reinstalling the stock Hurst . Will miss the crisp shifts ! First 500 takes it.

Hope the sale goes well bro, but have you tried cutting a apiece of inner tube and puttin it between the handle and base then wrapping it with rubber bands? it does help immensly, just a thought.

Hey Stink, going to install mine this weekend...could you give more in depth details on how to do this. A little confused on what you mean, remembering I'm a mechanical idiot. Thanks.

Tony, I haven't tried that. I thought it would probably be futile because of the bolt going thru the handle into the base. I just figured the bolt would still transfer the noise. If you have tried it and it helped I am more than willing to give it a try.
thanlks
Mark

In between where the handle bolts to the base take a and cut like a bicycle inner tube to fit between there, maybe even double it up to about 1/8 inch.

run allen head bolts thru handle thru rubber into where it mounts on the base.

Then go to staples or somewhere and find small rubber bands and put them around this area also , heck as many as you can , and make them very tight.
the wide ones also, not the skinny ones.

what you are doing is giving a rubber insulator for the harmonics, the rubber will absorb them. and the rubber bands will lesson the vibrations also.

Look at it this way, take your ladies vibrator and stick in on a glass table and turn it on, noise as hell right?
now put a rubber over vibrator, and then lay it on the table, noise now mostly gone, plus you now have a safe toy for her:D

it may not get rid of it completly , but may make it alot more livable

Cool! Thanks...Now about the vibrator insulation..Are these ribbed/lubricated,ribbed no lube, or just your basic 25 cent Redneck balloon they sell in Honky Tonks. I'm all about the info man.:D

Lol!! Or fruits n vegies?? :D

I wrapped my replacement shifter lever with three layers of shrink-wrap way up past the boot cover too, sure help quite it down to near stock noise levels. Harbor Freight has the larger shrink-wrap kit for $7.

Tips by Tony a new do it yourself show on the Discovery Channel...............fixing your hot water heater...................well its like this boys, you know your old lady has lots of cooder hair right?...well its there for a reason son, insulation!!!!

I wonder if there are any bolts made of some kind of metal that wouldn't transfer noise as much?? Maybe Titanium?:dontknow:

I doubt that titanium or any other type metal would help.I am pretty sure the noise problem has nothing to do with the bolts, but rather with the shifter and handle/stick being mounted together with nothing to isolate one from the other. I used nylon washers between my shifter and stick and it helped a lot. Also wrapped the whole thing with used inner tube and rubber bands.

I have rubber in between the handle and shifter, lead weights attached to the hanlde with a ton of rubber bands, it did help but I still have a bad high pitch whine in 6th gear only!

Didn't Boomer Gen II shifter come with a nylon gasket?? I had no noise issues with that shifter just the Gen IV.

Boomer, will the nylon gasket from the Gen II work with the Gen IV? Do you have any extras??:dontknow:

Nylon Gasket

The B&M comes with a rather substantial nylon (or maybe HDPE) gasket. Guess they did a bit more research and development, or they have built just a few more shifters than the average bear. This gasket should fit your shifters, maybe the guy from B&M that frequents the board would swallow a bit of "private pleasure" and offer some of you guys a chance to buy just that part number. Still, with what you have already spent, it seems like a bit much to ask you to spend even more.

Just my .02, considering I took a loss to sell mine, I probably have a lot of .02 left to offer.

first off, mr smarty pants, the gasket wont help with hamonics coming thru the shift lever. the ball at the end of the actuation rod in the shifter assembley is ALWAYS in contact with the transmission with our shifter, IE the tranny harmonics come up thru the lever just like a stethoscope. our shifter is a tight precison piece, so there isnt extra clearances, or a plastic pivot point internally to asorb vibrations.
a LOT of the tranny noises can also be calmed down by switching to a synthetic trans lube like Redline or Royal Purple.
if you want precison, and the ability to do full throttle shifts, then our shifter is the answer.
volume isnt the end all to a superier product, thats like comparing a Camaro to a Ferrari.
World Challenge car drivers and thier mechanics -BUY, and use our products, and they get FREE shifters from our competitors, but choose to spend the money on our shifter. but thats just .02 for ya.
then again, if you like quiet, dont install a catback, headers or catless mid pipes. you could just drive a Buick.

Right on Mr. Boomer, ya just have to take into account that most of these morons don't have enough cents to, or brains to, fill a thimble, my .02:D :D

I have had Boomers first shifter since he debuted them 2 years ago or so. Does it make some noise? Sure does......but does it bother me? Hell no!! I will take some added noise and precise shifts everytime. Does his gen4 make some noise? Seems as though it does......but does it shift exactly like he says it would? Yes........so the moral here is....expect some noise when buying Boomers shifters, but enjoy the precise shifts. It does no good to anybody to start taking stabs at any vendor. We have limited aftermarket vendors with our truck. While they cant please everybody, they sure do try. Dont take this as an attack on you......I am just voicing my lame azz opinion as we all are able too here.:burnout:

:congrats: Very nice post. Started off with a little humor, explained why Rick R's suggestion wouldn't work, made a suggestion about what else can be done to help quiet the noise, plugged his product and finished with some more humor. That was much better than "You can't make chicken soup out of chicken shit". You've come a long way. :D
