Gonna be hitting the track tonight, if the stinking weather holds out. I went once before to be totally honest, I wasn't proud or impressed. I only got to make 3 passes and I couldn't get the pedal dance just right. Plus it was TnT rounds between actual brackets, so some of the big dogs were making passes and I couldn't hear myself think. And it was first time jitters. :D The best I could manage was a 8.9 @ 8x . . . ? (1/8 mile) I forget the actual MPH. I was expecting to run sub 8.50's. My 60' was like 2.2 or something god awful like that.

What do you guys on stock clutches do? I've got almost 12k miles on the truck and the stock clutch is still going strong, I'd like to keep it that way. :) I also want to run the best times possible. There's some folks wanting to see what a Viper Truck can do, I may just have to prove it after the track at a "private test track at an undisclosed location".

Thanks in advance for any and all advice, phuggers. :D  :p

Dynomax exhaust and free ram air are my only mods. Temp is gonna be in the mid 80's and track prep is usually pretty good.

Which reminds me of another question. What do you guys with street tires do at the waterbox? Anything? :dontknow:

when the light turns green you should already be gone, leave on the last light before it turns green.

Burnout at all or am I wasting my time/tires? Maybe just a little scratch . . . ?

Those statements contradict them self’s, best time = slip the clutch slightly 1.9 sixty is easy then, and 1.8 is not out of reach. If you do slip it be ready to buy clutch(s)... I can run 8.3's all day, and have had 2 high 8.2's, that was revving up to 4000 and letting the clutch go about 3/4 and then dropping it all the way...

As far as a burnout, try to go around the water and do a short (5 sec) burn out, just enough to clean and heat the tires. Also 1/8 mile track your reaction time is VERY IMPORTAIN, if you are waiting for the green light before you go your going to lose alot! Leave on the last amber light.

Hey Jimi,

If you can avoid the water box - DO IT! Then all ya really need a is quick spin to clean off the tires. Though a little smoke never hurt anyone either.;)

If you must go through the water, then you pretty much have to get the water off the tires - schmoke 'em! Rev it, pop the clutch (1st gear please;) ), then put your left hoof on the brake pedal until you see smoke from both mirrors.

Maybe lower your air pressure in the rear tires to ~25 or so. Leave the fronts alone, or maybe add a bit more air if you feel like it (less rolling resistance:) ).

When I launched my truck at the strip I never really 'popped' the clutch. I revved the engine to whatever RPM (anywhere from 2-4,000rpms depending on stickyness of track:D ), then quickly let up on the clutch pedal when it was time to go, while feeding it more fuel to keep it from bogging. Once you get some forward movement (assuming you hook) - Mash it!!!!

Before you go, give your quater panels a goooood coat of wax too! Then hit the carwash on the way home and pressurewash the rubber off(wheelwells too).

Though the best tip I can offer - Wait until Fall to race. Too damn hot & humid now.:p

Actually, unless your in some sort of competition (bracket racing or whatever), Reaction time don't mean shit! The timers don't start until you move!

Though, it looks kinda bad for you when the other guy leaves your ass on the line.;) :D

Clarification...your reaction time is important in an eighth mile track as it relates to beating the competition. Reaction time is not relevant in trying to get a low e.t.

Initially, learn by not racing the other car, learn to launch, then learn to cut the light. You will beat most stock vehicles with slow reaction times...the pressure of a good rt is counter productive to learning to launch effectively. One step at a time, is always good advice.

Hamrhead...I guess we were thinking the same thing, you just type faster than me! Great minds...etc.

... I know that, but your r/t will win you many races. runnning 8.3's don't mean anything if your not beating the 9 sec car next to you, I aways thought that the point of racing was to win? (all you "but I am having fun" babies can go cry to your mama...)
