I probably should have done this 6 months ago, but today I finally decided it's time to say goodby to my Pit Bull Spike.

He's 14 years old and been a part of the family since he was 4 weeks old. It's been getting harder and harder for him to motor around and this morning it took him about a half hour to get himself up and moving. So we made the appointment for this afternoon at the Vet's and we're going to lay him down.

Damn hard thing to do, he's my buddy.

I know this isn't the same thing.... but we're having to get rid of my boxer because she has more energy and requires more attention then we can give her. It's going to suck to hand her over but at least she's going to a better place.

You should think the same with your pit. Hope everything goes well man and you shouldn't have any regrets.... It is now time for him to retire and chase dog tail all day long in doggy heaven. My prayers with the pup and you!

I am sorry for yah brother, Dogs are members of the family, trust you are doing the right thing for your friend and remember the good ole days. Post a pic sometime, I love Pits

Sorry Bro! Sounds like you are a making a decision for him to be better off though. But a very hard decision indeed. Hang in there!

Get a puppy the same day that you put Spike down.

Puppies soften the sorrow...

Dogs are the only thing in life that give unconditional love!

I agree with Roy too! There are a lot of animals at your local ASPCA that never get a chance to show you their unconditional love.

RIP Spike...

I disagree! Morn your lost loved one first.... A new puppy needs your complete attention and love. Especially a new bull. It's not fair to the puppy.

So sorry for your loss. :(

You know, I bought me a Blue Tick Hound before, he was going to be there when we put Spike down, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Now Jackson is 16 months old and we've finally made the decision. Jackson is an experience all in himself and will take up the slack.

But thanks everyone for the support, not a happy day in our house.

I'll never own another Pit, I used to breed them and all my life I've had pits, you seem to get so close to them and they are a one of a kind friend. I honestly believe that there is no other breed compared to a pit, for their loyality, their love, and as a member of the family, if you've never owned one, you won't understand. Plus with all the BS going on now about them, it's just easier not having one anymore.

I had a mutant boston terrier, I mean this sum bitch was big. He was giving to us by an old family friend. I think I was 8 when I got him. He was my best friend, he was always there for me. He grew up with our boxer we had and when the boxer died, chipper headed down hill fast. Started having seizures and just not acting right. My parents finally decided to put him down in may of 2008. I still miss him, Its not easy putting them down but sometimes its for the best. :(

If yer talking about putting down yer boxer, PLEASE don't put down any animal that isn't sick.

I Googled at least three boxer rescue organizations in your state (TN). Here's a link to just one of them...... Don't put yer girl down if you don't have to... Yer breaking my fkn heart, man....

Just to take your mind off Spike...we need a sound clip of Jackson...some here have never heard a Blue Tick Hound ...it is one of the most memorable sounds you will ever hear! When you get the time, get us the recording...some will be amazed!

Sorry Bud

God Bless

:( ... Hang-in-there Carl. Take mama with you, seems to help, it did me.

I went alone once, didn't like it.

Its a bad feeling for sure but if the pup is in pain its the right thing to do for him.

Had to put mine down after 10 years three years ago still don't have it in me to get another by far the worst day.
