Grinding Noise????????

After I start my truck up, it makes a horrible grinding noise.. It only lasts for a couple seconds and then goes away, I have no codes and the truck drives fine..? I get oil pressure right away and I have fuel, so is this something to do with the tranny? It seems to be more in the front right (passenger side).

Honestly i'd take it to the dealership but being where I am I wouldn't trust the Mechanics here with lego.

Yeah i'm gonna try and grab my video camera and get a quick bit of it, rather nasty noise, and it seems internal more then anything.

After they replaed my emitions pump, mine makes a funny sound on startup...

mine made the noise too. sounds horrible. then a few days later the belt shredded itself off. a crank pully bolt came loose. 2nd time this happened. waiting on the 3rd.

I know the oil is topped off. I drive Semi's for a living and I always do a "pre-trip" before driving.

I'll check that pully, although this has been happening for a few weeks. I don't drive my truck that often, 1-2 times a week.

My pulley came loose on my '04, but it just sounded like a bad idler or alternator bearing (steel on steel). No grinding sound at all. I can't imagine the bolt coming loose on a 2006 since they changed it to that massive bolt in '05. If it did, they have some serious quality control problems at the assembly plant. :dontknow:

I would agree that the odds are pretty slim it would be a crank bolt on an 06.

Why wait for it to happen?? Just re-torque at oil change time, 120ft/lb.

9 out of 10 times that horrible noise that you are talking about comes from the starter solenoid. When you hit the red button the solenoid pushes out the ring gear of the starter to the flywheel and turns your engine . When you release the red button the ring gear should release at the flywheel. If it does not release then you hear that awful grinding noise because the running engine's flywheel is pushing the ring gear assembly of the starter until it finally releases. If this happens again get somebody to tap the starter solenoid with a hammer. If the problem goes away then go down to Canadian Tire and purchase a new starter. Tapping the solenoid is only a temporary fix.

Heh, i like how you get the Red Button in there This would make sense, it comes and goes as it pleases, something starters like to do.. had lots of starter problems before, but nothing like this.

I'll make sure on this, i'd hate to hand over the truck to the dealership and let them have it for a month diagnosing.
