I just bought a extra set of heads to be ported. I am on a limited budget. Can I get a good port job with a Cam without putting in new rockers. My goal is low end torque and maybe just touch 500 RWHP.

I kind of planned on new pushrods, if needed, and of course new bigger valves.

I can't afford rockers because then I would have to get a spacer at the minimum. That is out of my budget right now.

I have been in touch with "Bone" and "msdnga" about some ideas and pricing.

Should I wait until I can get Rockers or go for it now?

All suggestions appreciated. I am in new territory with heads. I have already done many searches and reading about it.

THANKS!

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, as I purchased a set of heads myself.... I can see smoothing the transition from the exhaust valve bowl out through the port exit. On the intake side I can see some slight cleaning of the overall port.

I have yet to pull the valves out for a complete looksy.....

Perhaps someone can post a detailed pic or two....

My current heads are in my garage if you need something specific (picture).

One word of caution when shipping, there are "nipples" for lack of a better word and where my mind is at now, located at the ends of the headers. They need to be properly wrapped. If the UPS man was to drop the heads on the side, it would ruin them completely. The water jackets would be compromised.

I'd call Joe @ PBJ. He is magic on the heads. The ones he did for me out flowed JM's Stage III heads and were just a touch under Greg Goodes for about half the cost of those two.

He can port match the exhaust to match you headers too (if you have them).

You can run the stock rockers if your cam isn't too radical, no problem. It would be silly not to upgrade the rockers though because they don't cost much.

Rockers plus spacers is not cheap. How much gain by adding 1.7 rockers?

THANKS!

You won't gain any hp because they are all ready 1.7.

They are just more secure, especially with a large cam.

You do not need to change the lifters or the rockers.

If you go over .575" lift it would be a good idea to do shaft rockers and definatly better springs.

You just want to see me shoot the retainers and keepers across the room! :p
If I have the spring compressor at my house, I will remove a set.
