Hi Guys,

Yesterday I was out driving, all forward gears were fine. I pulled up to pick my Mum up from her work (she requested a drive in the Ram :p ) When there I pulled up and tried to engage reverse. Tried 3 or 4 times no luck. Didn't think anything of it at the time other than I'm a kook getting used to it. So, drove off in first and got home, all fine.

Today I was going to go for a drive, started it, emergency brake off, clutch in and I couldn't find reverse again. Tried several times, N, straight across towards me (RHD) and up, nothing. WTF!?! I thought, OK, I'll try 1st see what happens then, again, nothing. It's like the truck won't get out of neutral. I thought perhaps these trucks require the brake to be depressed to engage reverse, tried that and nothing either.

When I thought I had it in reverse gear I'd start to slowly ease off the clutch and the shifter would pop out and back in to neutral, what the hell!?! LOL What is happening. I've gone and started it and tried again with no luck. It's like I can't find the gates for the gears, they're all closed and it will only stay in neutral and briefly in 5th or reverse. I've been driving for 10 years and never had this happen, where I couldn't select a gear. Please help! My trucks a 2006 RC with Viper master slave/cylinder upgrade & centerforce clutch.

Cheers,
Carl

stock shifter or aftermarket?

does your clutch pedal feel normal ?

can you shift into the gears with the engine off ? you may have a hyd leak in your clutch cylinders or they need bled....... :(

maybe the shifter is loose/misaligned ?

Sorry - X-Metal Gen X.

try this first, go outside, loosen all the mounting bolts a tad, jsut enough to barely move the shifter base, then run thru the gears, 1st thru 6th , then reverse, this will recenter the shifter, then tighten and retry;)

Thanks guys for the help. I've said it before but this site is invaluable. :)

Ok lads, I've checked a few things. Shifter seems fine, goes into gear normally when the engine is off. The clutch pedal does feel weak/soft, no firmness to it or no strength needed to disengage it (push it in). I checked under the hood, no leak as far as I can see so maybe a bled is in order? Any help into bleding is appreciated too lol.

Since the gears engage with the truck off, does this automatically cross the shifter being off center or not aligned off the list?? Or could it be not aligned but when the truck starts due to driveline movement this throws it out? I'm scared of taking off the console lol, especially after it's been modified to suit RHD.

I always lean towards the Viper GTS clutch hydraulics mod..... Clutchline shielding, too....

I had so many clutch related problems in my first year+ (that) I was driven to exasperation..... The aforementioned mods cured ALL my clutch problems....

Good luck, bro.

since it was moved with the rhd conversion, i'd lean towards bleeding.....

http://www.vtcoa.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113&highlight=bleed+clutch

when i first installed my gen4 shifter, it was slightly misaligned & it would pop out of 2nd sometimes, the clutch hyd seem suspect here........

aahhh forgot about the ol swaperroo:D yeah bro, mopar man is right try the bleeding first bo, especially since it shifts thru the gears ok;)

Thanks guys! :) I will try to bleed it myself, if I have problems I'll call my resto guys.
I like doing things myself but doing it properly comes first and foremost!

Django - Where do or can I get the Viper GTS clutch hydraulics mod and Clutchline shielding? Will do a search after posting this post.

I would contact Dan Cragin (DC Performance) in Los Angeles, but any Viper parts folks in the Netherlands could provide the parts. All you need then is the shims and a bit of instruction to shim it correctly....

Good Luck...

Tim

this may not be of help. But I have the same trouble sometimes. 2 tips. If the truck is off and your parked and have to back up. I sometimes put it in reverse, then hit your red button and back up. Or sometimes shift down to 2, then over to 4 or 6. It then makes it easier to get into reverse for me. something to try cuz damn its embarrasing not being able to get it in when you gotta parallel park or something lol. take care, that RHD is tite:)

sounds like you need the viper hyd upgrade....... :D

Thanks Luke, LOL, I'll say, it's embarrassing is hell. I was about 15 metres away from where my Mums work door is, I obviously thought I'd have no reverse trouble, but I did. Sat there searching for reverse for a good minute then thought ahhhh f$%k it......she can walk lol. Nah, but I had no choice. I'm just glad I got home safely and that I didn't come to a stop somewhere and couldn't select a gear, now THAT would have been embarrassing.

Tim - As Moparracing said, I already have the upgraded slave & cylinder hydraulic kit. I just didn't realise it as I've never heard/seen it typed like "GTS ....etc". I'm guessing the shimes come with the kit I have installed so I should be good to go when it's bled. A mate (restores cars) is coming around to bleed it up the drive tomorrow, he has a bleeding kit and has done it plenty of times. Netherlands? I'm in New Zealand. :) I got my kit from Justin @ JMB. Where can I obtain the clutchline sheilds, or does Justins kits come with them?

Thanks again everyone.
