my o6 rc, I have had good luck with the shifter until the other day. Out of the blue, it would not downshift from 6th to 5th. I went by my dealership and wasted half a day to find out they did not know. One of the techs said it was probally the sorry hurst shifter. I know some of you guys have had problems with the hurst, so i took his advice and ordered a b&m. Well after 2 hours and 300.00 i still have the same problem. but know i have this irritating noise coming from the shifter area under acceleration. I call b&m and they say we dont know, we havent had any problems. I have so little off time this time of year, it is really pissing me off. can anyone help?

Sounds more like the clutch to me, But one of the other guys will post up soon.

I think you you either have a tranny problem or a hydraulic problem.

Is that the only shift you have trouble with? Take it out and drive it hard, if you have trouble getting it into first after you have heated it up it is most likely a hydraulic problem.

Good luck, let us know what the out come is!!

Ultimately all RC drivers will end up with the following:

Centerforce Clutch
Fidanza Flywheel
Viper Slave and Master Cyl
Gen IV Shifter from x-metal or B&M Shifter

Once you have those items you will have eliminated the issues that we all have had relating to moving from gear to gear...

That is not bad news...while it will cost you a pretty penny, you will have a nearly bullet proof system.

And then....and then...

Well it never stops...

it wont go. you could hit it with a sledge hammer and it wont go. It has just started this. I could probally live with it for a while but now with the b&m i have this damn noise.

Noise is gonna happen with a Performance shifter!! Tighter tolerences means more noise!!

Slap the stocker back in there and take it to the dealer! Drive it with the Mechanic on board and show him!! See what he says!!

My bet is tranny, but I don't know poop!!

Mine did the very same thing.Installed the Centerforce clutch,Viper master and slave and it went away.Could have had it done under warranty, but I really wanted to upgrade,so I did it on my dime. Now I still need to bleed the master and slave cylinders and replace the fluid with the Motul stuff, but it is far better than stock.I have the Gen 4 and it makes noise, too.Didn't until I went with Mobil 1 ATF in the trans, but it shifts better,so I tolerate the noise.

thanks guys, it makes me feel better about the noise. I HATE TO HAVE OUR DODGE DEALER TOUCH MY TRUCK, SO I WILL PROBALLY GO AHEAD AND UPGRADE MYSELF

The 5th gear shift, up or down, was giving me hell right before my master/slave tanked on me.

Sounds like maybe a master/slave cylinder issue. I recently ran into this on my GF's car. . . No matter how much force I used I could not get it into gear.

You can save $500 on the new clutch set up by running the OEM flywheel. Some of us (myself included) believe that the OEM flywheel is better for a truck set up than the lightweight fidanza.

As for the shifter noise, get used to it. You can't stop it on the aftermarket shifters.:(

What is the reason that the stock flywheel would be better ? I have read several opinions, but I still don't quite "get it". :dontknow:

IMO two views: The Fidanza light weight flywheel has two advantages, first and most important is that you get a new surface to mate to your clutch...at a minimum I think you need to get your oem flywheel resurfaced to be sure that you have a good surface to against your clutch plate. The second advantage is that the light weight flywheel allows the engine to rev much faster.

Second view: What I consider to be the second advantage of the Fidanza is considered to be a downside by many...they feel that to launch successfully you need a heavy flywheel that can build a lot of rotating weight to avoid bogging the engine off the line and that rotating weight will assist in moving the vehicle off the line and retaining rpm during shifts...

Almost seems like six of one half a dozen of the other...

Bottom line if you feel confident that the surface of the flywheel is sound or can be made good...you should be fine with the stock flywheel...if you want a faster reving engine (not necessarily a faster truck) and want to be sure that the new clutch will seat well, go with the Fidanza...

I think I have been objective...but it is so hard to not lobby for your own set up!

You know, i got the same setup and i remember that after the dealership
installed it i noticed that it revvd faster..however, someone mentioned that
unless you do 1/4's or 1/8's your better off with the lightweight...

Road racing: lightweight
track racing: Stock

I have the lightweight flywheel myself and after "learning" to drive it I like it.

I have no problems launching the truck. After the viper master/slave, centerforce clutch and the flywheel the truck is awesome. The Gen IV shifter is all it is advertised to be, even the noise, which by the way we have been able to quiet it down some.

After all parts were installed and breaking in the clutch we set out to "test" out the new set up.

When powershifting to 2nd gear the truck side-stepped a lane to the left.
That was a great feeling.

Yup, but it even feels better with the Stinker Detroit Locker Rear end...no side step, just two long straight patches of rubber in second and third, and a short twin patch in fourth...

Thank you Sean Roe!

I know the Yetti will probably not agree with me on this one, but personally I do not believe we need a heavy flywheel with our trucks.

We have a boat load of torque to start with, so the heavy flywheel is not necessary. Smaller engines without a lot of torque down low in the RPM range can use the heavy flywheel to help them start our without stalling the motor.

Yes, it will take some getting used to when you go to a lighter flywheel, but after you get used to it I think you will like it better.

Okay Jerry, your turn.;) :D

This is another one of those "go to the mountain" type questions...everyone can opine, but you really only end up with philosophy...I'm a windsock, blow me and I'll face in your direction.
