Hood scoop grill removal question

Have any of you that have removed your hood scoop grill noticed any problems if you drive the truck in a heavy rain (or park the truck outside during a heavy rain)? Is there a problem with water puddling on the top of the upper intake or getting in and causing any other problems? I'm thinking of doing this small mod today but we get a lot of rain in my area and I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts were on this. :dontknow:

mine is removed, i dont drive my truck in any rain, so i dont have that problem...

I don't think it'll make any difference what so ever. The grille has big holes in it so driving in rain with or without the mesh, rain is getting in, maybe a little more without it but only marginal. I'm not a fan of the "teeth" but still wanted the mesh/grille, the teeth stand out far too much.......so I became a dentist for a day and removed the teeth only.

I think the grill is just mainly for keeping birds out of your engine bay.

I removed mine and the only problem I have is when I park on an incline and it rains, when I crank my truck, the belt will squeal for a second. Not really a problem just embarassing. I like mine without it. Just be careful grinding the tabs off.

i took my insert out and had the body shop remove the grill and take the tabs off and repaint it so it looks factory....

I know. It won't be long I'll be having my door handles/ gate handle, and mirrors painted to match my truck. I'll have the scoop taken care of then.

Thanks mate, something different. It took a while and to be honest was a prick of a job as I used metal pins to re-install my mesh after drilling the teeth out carefully. I wasn't keen on having a big hole and once in place it looks like there is no grille there with the teeth now gone. Either way is good IMO, the teeth are fugly lol.

isnt ur stock grille mesh? dosnt rain get in anyway? i dont see how it would make any difference. mesh or no mesh:dontknow:

Yah, I know, it was kind of a stupid question. I just wondered if an excessive amount of water would be getting in after removing the grill and if anyone had any thoughts on it. I think we can say, judging by the responses that it won't make a noticeable difference.

No Such Thing As A Stupid Question.........

Leaves, twigs blown off trees and other small debris would get in, they won't with the stock mesh.
Apart from leaves, there really isn't any other nuisance to really worry about + dust and road grime gets in either way.

A bird strike took out most of my grill from the scoop. Just need to get in there and finish the job.
