I know that the 04s came with 4.10s factory. I bought my truck used and it has several aftermarket parts on it already.

I'd like to find out if i have aftermarket gears in the rear. Isn't there a way to calculate the gear ratio without pulling the rearend cover?

Get the back of the truck off of the ground.

Mark the driveshaft with chalk or a piece of tape or whatever.

Spin the tires around one full turn by hand. If the driveshaft turns just over 4
turns you have 4.10s, if if turns 4.5 times, you have 4.56 etc.

Does that mean, I would have to remove the driveshaft cover? What does it called?

Thanks.

IMO it's easy with the 04's - Just go about 50mph and stick it in 6th gear. If you've still got the 4.10's, it'll be falling on it's face BIGtime!;) 6th is about useless until ~65 or so (w/ 4.10's).

lol...some of the answers crack me up hehe

in 1st gear @ 6000 RPM - 50mph = 4:11's
in 1st gear @ 6000 RPM - 44.5mph = 4:56's
in 1st gear @ 6000 RPM - 41.4mph = 4:88's

Where is the fun in that?

Final-drive ratio 4.11:1, limited slip
V - 0.74 - 29.8 - 153 mph (5100 rpm)
VI - 0.50 - 44.2 - 153 mph (3500 rpm)

4.56 gears.
V - 153 mph = 5726rpm (160.3 mph @ 6000rpm)
VI - 153 mph = 3930rpm (6000rpm in sixth? To damn fast)

For 4.88's
V - 149.1 @ 6000rpm
VI - 220.2 @ 6000rpm

Okay, it will take two people to do this.

One person gets in the truck and takes it to redline, 6000 rpm. Now he drops the clutch and the other person counts how many times the rear wheels go around in 1 minute.

Take this number and divide by who gives a F*ck.

How's that answer Tim???? :dontknow:

Sorry, I'm in a god damn piss poor mood today, and..............

Well, you get the idea.

Put the transmission in 4th gear and go 60 MPH ant tell me what the RPM's are on the tachometer. I will tell you what gears you have.
