suppose to be? mine is 80 pounds...is that too heavy....?

yep....bet it is just a modded diesel 'verter...mine and Blake's are in the 40lb range....

i will deal with this folks tomorrow...they told me it was srt10 specific...

any other comments/suggestions?...

ok...I got off the phone with john from suncoast. their triple disc billet converter for the qc srt10 is between 70 to 80 pounds. so my 80 pound converter is not un-normal. they said its heavy due to billet metal. also they claim no performance lost....

Bullshit. It takes HP to spin that mass. Now that does help in the torque area, but that is one thing these engines are not short on.

thank you, thats what i have been saying/ thinking,
granted, i hate to admit it, but i am not a Auto-tranny guy, i am into maneul tranny's and i dont even want to know about automatics, but a 80lb plus converter is going to eat some serious power up, plus thats a LOT of mass to be slinging around at 6000 rpm. 80lbs just seems like a diesel part to me, soemthing not intended to go past 3500 rpm.??????????:dontknow:

bud. like I told boomer. if we are talking about networks..I would argue until I turn blue. I don't know jack about trannies or engines for that matter...

just posting what they said...

no worries man, we just want your truck to be the best it possibly can, i would rather be over cautious to a fault, than to have to redo the tranny.
now go eat some kangaroo burgers! (he is in Australia on business):D

I am eating some noodles that I brought...no more roos' for me...

Suncoast is really big in the Diesel business. Redline on the Cummins ranges from 2950 to 3450. I think they are that high now. The issue is when you have a juiced up Cummins pumping out over 1000 LB/FT of torque at 1200 or less RPM's you need a converter like that to take the load. Also at that low of an RPM, the hydraulic pressure is not that great so a triple disk is the way to go. Also the reason for the billet cover is that the stock stamped steel one will twist out of shape.

All this mass and extra engineering is not needed in our applications.

Hope that helps.

Suncoast is selling a bill of goods....

Reducing rotational mass is key to building your rpms quickly.....With a paxton you want to get into the boost as soon as possible and an 80lb 'verter is going to hinder that process

I called Suncoast for my converter and they said they could build me one in a few days with the components they have on the shelf....those are diesel components....

my converter was made specifically for the SRT 10 QC....

now we are getting somewhere, ricardo and i had this exact converstion today. i have ordered vertors for bigblock chevys before and the engine made 1000hp, and the convertor weighed only like 50lbs at most.

:D Joe at 714-898-0089.....

Tell him you want the same converter as Mike Brady's SRT-10......:D

2500 stall...still streetable and hits hard on the slicks...

Didn't you upgrade the bands inside as well?

very little left stock in the tranny....he can build the tranny for all the hp needs you have for...under $4000.00

the 'verter is ..umm....$1400ish...don't remember exactly and I went with a billet drum around the verter...for some extra $$$$$ and safety

you know how it is though the magic is in the valve body work....line pressure..springs....etc....

a min of 1700 hp................................

just spoke to joe...he recommended me running what i bought as long the converter has a ballon plate. this will prevent it from expanding and causing damage to the engine...

he mentioned that if i use his converter it would void my tranny warranty. he also said not expect mike's numbers...

boomer....you are the foster parent of my baby....your call...

if it was me, i would send back what you have now, and get what Mike has. it works, he uses it for all its worth. we are building your truck to make more hp. an 80lb convertor is going to eat power, its simple physics there. i would at this point go big and do it right or dont do it at all!
