Swapping out the plugs tomorrow, and the shop im going to be doing it at is about 30 min away. I rent the bay by the hour (worth it because its airconditioned inside, and has every tool known to man)

Can i pull up in the bay and pull the plugs.. or do i need to let it cool an hour or so before i remove them?

btw these are the stockers. assuming they used antisieze 5 years ago.

I would really want the aluminum heads to cool a bit. Be sure to use anti-seize on the fresh plug threads.

I agree. I would show up a couple hours early and find someplace to chill for a bit while the truck cools down. Then quick pull her in the bay when the clock starts.

The techs at the garage ASE cert master techs, offered to do it for $50. Is it worth it?

You could take a fan or two with you. We use these at the shop:

Buy.com - Stanley 655702 High Velocity Blower Fan

You'd be surprised how fast one or two of these will cool off a engine bay. About 15-20mins with some air flowing would be fine.... even with a cheap-o Box Fan from Lowes.

Yeah, we have one of those over-the-top creepers at the shop too. Makes things much easier. Just don't drop the ladder on your toes when you try to adjust the height. :argh:

It takes a few extensions and swivels (IIRC) to R/R a couple of the plugs. So, it's not tough... you just have to have a few tools handy.

if you put the anti sieze in with the new plugs (besides the fact that it'll be hot as shit while working on it) the properties will break them down before they get to run the threads in as if it were cold...

if at all possible, i'd do it cold... either in the driveway, or leave it at the shop overnight and come back in the morning...

that's my opinion...

and i'm on my 4th set of plugs, too

Price seems fair to me if one doesn't want to exert the effort to replace the plugs. Although, I'd find out up front what would happen if something goes wrong while they are doing the job, e.g. damage a plug wire...

while the truck is cooling , remove the fender inner liners! pull the tires and, just a few small screws and you will have great access!!!

Good luck jeff. i would just do it in the driveway/garage and safe the money for the wires and coils. she needs a whole tune-up. especially considering that might wake her up a bit. JMHO
