For those looking for some ideas on cooling confined spaces, I thought I would make a thread that might help...

Ok, time for me to show what I worked on this week.....

I am having problems keeping my humidor between 67-70degrees, do I looked into some sort of cooling for it (since I work full time and don't want to run the a/c all day when Im not home). In order to get cooling in a confined space you can forget the old "compressor" style cooling (similar to a refrigerator unit or a wall-a/c unit)...just not enough space and too many working parts. Soooooo whats the next best thing?? Thermoelectric technology. Its a process not used too much, but we use it in our industry when working on circuitry. So out of a thermo wine cooler came a 24v 20amp thermoelectric unit which I though would be a great donor. I took the unit and got it prepped, with foam sealant and fans...

I then data logged the differances in temp / humidity in the cabinet to find the perfect location to place the Thermo so that cooling distribution would be idea. Once marked, I cut a hole in the back end....

Once the hole was cut, I placed some foam and brackets on the inside, and made sure it was strong enough to hold the weight. My A/c found a new home:

So now the problem was that it was 24v 18 Amp!? So now what do I do?? Well, I ordered a 24v 20amp DC adapter, ohm'd out the thermo plates, fans, and skipped the cool/heat sensors by placing resistors to fool them into thinking all is well...Once I got it wired, I did a test run. All worked great with the adapter running cool as can be.

So to keep it all working maintenance free, I found a thermostat temp controlled 120v switch which I cut a 12guage extention cord and wired...

Results: Air output from the cool side is 40 degrees cooling the humidor to 70 degrees (from 76) in approx 6 minutes. I have the differential set for 3 degrees so it turns off @ 67 automatically and shuts off @ 70. Its super quite, with no compressors, and it fits quite snug.

All in all it makes my cigars much more enjoyable

good thinking and good work
