I need to remove my wing....Help.

I looked through the replacement manual I had to order (that was covered in a previous thread) and it is for a 2005 srt-10 and no where in it does it cover removing the wing.

As an interesting side note, it also says, "All Dodge Ram Pickup trucks are intended to tow trailers up to 2,000lbs (907 kg) without added equipment or alterations to standard equipment." p.211

Obviously my wing and my manual are not up to spec. I think the only thing to do here is just not worry about it and just enjoy the fact that I have a "custom" wing. :burnout:

I keep reading where you guys say the wing slides forward once the two 10mm bolts are removed. You might get someone to hold the wing and slide the truck forward but I say the wing slides backward (toward the rear). I've had mine off a couple of times and that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Um, this may sound stupid, but my wing has 2 bolts on each side. Have to pop out the taillights to get the back ones out (huge PITA). Is there something wrong with mine?

The two rear "bolts" are slider bolts. There are holes in the bottom of the wing that fits over the head of them and then lock on when the wing is slid forward. You only need to remove the two 10mm under the bed rail and then work the wing back by bumping it with the heel of your hand on each side a couple times.

I'm with Dave on that one. The only way it slides forward is if you sit in the bed facing the wing. :D
Seriously though, if this is the first time its been off, the foam pads may be slightly stuck to the bed. After removing the bolts, put a slight upward pressure on the rear of the wing to avoid scratching the top of the bed, then gently tap the sharp front edge of the wing toward the rear. Do one side at a time.
Good Luck.

All good tips...Thanks guys. I have a rubber mallet I can tap it with.
The palm of your hand works fine. :)
Besides, if you miss with the mallot and the wood hits

Oh no no no no....Just light taps is all I meant. I would worry about cracking it.

I'll just use my titty-feeler like you suggest.

So.......as it turns out, my wife has been correct all along...I am a dumbass. I actually took the wing off and looked at the those bolts. Yeah, needless to say my wing is just like everyone else's.

In my defense the guy before me had boogered the track of one up, which is why I couldn't get it budge when I tried to slide it. Oh well, cheers. Thanks for the lesson everyone.

When you get it off, Your gonna like it so much you will not put it back on.:D

Jeez...I found a crap load of threads from people debating (or crying I should say :D ) whether they should remove it or not. Boo frickin' hoo. Do what you want I say!! :D

I plan on keeping mine on but I HAVE to move something next week. How does this thing come off temporarily?????

Does anyone have procedures for this?

Then it goes back on in all it's SRT10 factory glory. :)
Most of us use either a Plasma torch or if you don't have that try a 6 ft pry bar and make sure you lay a towel on the tail gate so you don't scratch the paint ;) :D :p

Well your wife knows you better than I do so I won't argue with her. :D Naaa, just kidding. When I first took the wing off to install the tonneau cover, it was stuck pretty good. It took a few moments of head scratching to outsmart the truck and make sure I wasn't doing irreparable damage to anything. I leave owners manual reading as a last resort.

As a side note: I have to keep my wing on. The paint under it on the bed is all messed up.

One of my favorites! I believe it was,
"Your face, your ass, what's the difference!"

Great infor here. I just removed my wing with no problems. By the way it is slid back after the front bolts are removed.

The paint under my bed liner is a different story.

I will have to get the rear slider bolts removed in order to get the spray in liner done. Oh well, I guess it is tail light removal time.

If you are really careful ( or very lucky),you don't have to take out the tail lights.Just reach into the stake pocket and hold the nut as you loosen the slotted stud (with a large blade screwdriver).

If you get the spray in liner you don't have to touch anything. That's THEIR job.

Seriously.....I just got the Linex installed a week ago and they take care of removing and reinstaling everything. I have the linex under the wing and ditched those rubber gaskets. The wing sits nice and tight against the Line-x. My paint was peeled and chipped under the wing.

That tool kit has some brackets to relocate the wing to the front of the bed. I would suggest not doing it. if you take it off to haul something, just remove it, and reinstall it when your done.

I did it once and it messed up the paint (not bad, but I know it there) where the wing sat on the top of the bed.
