Just seems to me (the resident liberal here) that killing the head of this monster is the solution. In my mind there is little difference between the illegal entry into this country or the illegal hiring and paying of the workers.

If a company has illegal employees, send the owners/top managers to jail. Let's send a message...to illegals and employers...period.

What is right about

1. Coming into this country illegally...

2. Hiring illegal employees...

The American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa condemned the raids in a statement Tuesday.
"It appears that detainees are not receiving adequate time to meet with their lawyers, and that defense attorneys are being overwhelmed by requests to represent far more clients than is advisable — or perhaps even ethical," said Ben Stone, the group's president. "We are concerned that the sheer size of this raid is likely to result in numerous violations of the U.S. Constitution, which protects the due process rights of all persons in this country."

That's what I figured, but....


Show me papers, or get out! That's easy, and doesn't require a lawyer! Our tax dollars are paying for illegals, make the owners of the plant pay for that shit!
 
If we put the employers in jail, and continue to do so...there will not be an incentive to be here...other than to commit crimes or terrorism. Our efforts to close the borders will be greatly simplified, and the wages for those jobs that the illegals are hired for will rise and become attractive to those who need employment and are here legally.

Yes we will all pay. But paying to provide a decent wage to a fellow American is better than paying to keep illegals out and enforce immigration laws...

Just seems simple to me...put the employers in jail...that is the head of this monster, let's cut it off.

I agree 1000% That's why I say, take them to jail, and make them (The employers) pay for everyone's representation!
 
That's even better...maybe we could add transportation costs home too!
 
A problem I encountered as an employer. Fake documents. If the employee is capable of producing drivers license, SSN, and other paperwork saying thay are here legally (even though they aren't). What is the employer to do? How much of a background check is the employer on the hook for?
 
In Arizona at the first of this year it was made illegal for employers to hire undocumented workers and there is an electronic verification required on all new hires. So, what you guys say should happen has begun one State at a time. It's a shame our federal government doesn't have the balls to do enforce this and the individual States are left to make a stand. At first, I thought this was bad for AZ because we just sent our illegals to other states. But then I realized that those vacated jobs will be filled by citizens and thus help the AZ economy. With the slowing economy (read recession), this was the perfect move at the perfect time for Arizona. All the unemployed construction workers now have jobs to fill that were vacated by illegals!!!!!!!!!!! Way to go Arizona!

The I-9 form is the starting point. Two id's from one of the three columns.

And to be honest, a call to the IRS about past tax activity should be added.

I hear your plea. But this is one area that the employer needs to take some extra responsibility just as CEO's do now because of Sarbanes-Oxley. If we can make the filing of false income statements a prison offense we can do the same for hiring illegals. It is a cost of being in business that must be extracted so that we can solve about five major problems.

Start with the I-9 form and add a couple of extra steps and that should protect you, and make room for some deserving legals that need employment.

I so agree with ntw0rk if you are not a citizen you are not guaranteed constitutional rights! Period go the f*ck home and apply properly. If I sneak into your country you would have my ass in jail. Why is it different for you?

The issue is not how deep but how well. If you have an employee that produces all required forms of ID for an I-9 form and you diligently keep record. a cheap scanner on your computer? Scan the documents and the signed form and keep that in his employee file. Then when it comes time for the guys in black suits to come through the door I say you are off the hook and he has committed a mandatory class 4 felony and gets same day deportation or 25 years to life in jail. Do not pass go do not collect $200 and any and all assets he garnered while in the US illegally are siezed and sold to fund the program. Anchor babies sorry you go home now. Wife at home too but she is illegal? here is your wife here is your kid get walking.

Man am I harsh. Sorry it sux to be criminal.
 
This is not a small problem and the ACLU need to pull there collective heads out of there butts. Just because people do things in large numbers, does not mean they criminal gets a free pass because there aren't enough lawyers to go around. There not just getting into meet processing plants. The technology is there to allow these illegals (regardless of race or country of orgin) to obtain documentation that allows them to work. Going after the employer will work in some cases, but there is also the problem of finding and convicting those that are aiding in illegal documantation

But there is a major error in your post...

Please, I think this is still the case, it's been a few years since I was a CEO, but the I-9 forms can not be kept in the personnel file of the employee!!!!!

I-9's must be kept in a seperate file away from the personnel file. This is to be sure that personnel decisions are not made based on nationality, race, or anything like that...some one please correct me if that has changed in the past few years.
 
The amazing part, there is no job that is not worth the risk, so anyone that thinks it's just the tomato pickers that are losing employment
