can't do it...the plugs have heat shields around them, can't see your mark!:( anyways got them changed out (removed wheel and liner for a pretty easy change-out). anybody want a set of 30 copper (flat) indexing rings for their engine build? pm me your address and i'll send them out;)

Just mark the top of your socket and/or extension with a felt pen or paint, and point the electrode there. Install "the mark" between 10 and 2 o'clock.
I haven't used the washers, just buy 2 sets of plugs 'cause the threads all start in a different place. Switch them out until you find the right ones.
(I bet you don't want to take them all out now though, maybe next time..?)

well...there is so little room in the fender well, screw it!:argh: :D

Geez, we had to pull the whole cab off of the F-350 to do some high-perf work on the 6L V-8 diesel. Quit your whining! ;) :D
Trust me, the burn pattern on the o.e.m. Viper heads isn't pretty. They can use all the help they can get, like indexing the plugs.

at least she got some new plugs! (10,000 mi.)

you know how it is....nothing is simple anymore, pulled the wheel and i see i need to clean calipers and then the fender liner, and might as well paint the hubs...oh and spray paint the the tie rods and sway bars....etc.:( :D

Yeah, but it's a labor of love.....

(No shit about having to pull the whole cab on the F-350)

which end of the electrode do ya point between 10 to 2 o'clock????

the pointy end or the welded end?????????????????

and is this 10 to 2 o'clock looking down through the spark plg hole or is the clock lookin straight at the cylinder??????????????

Just use a hole saw to make some holes so you can see the plugs, just like the early 427 Shelby Mustangs ( the rubber plugs on the floor pan put there to access the seat bolts work great) Ford finally did that after complaints about having to pull the engine for a tune up. We used to offer that choice to the customer..........drill or pull, it is your money afterall:D

from what i understand, the open end. (pointy?)

Just pull you engine and do them, I did. :'>

The open end points towards the exhaust port correct?

No, that is where you don't want it.
Between 10 and 2 o'clock.
Think of a "V". Or a (2) finger peace symbol or someone standing on their heads with their legs apart at a 45 degree angle, or..... :D
The idea is to get the open portion of the gap positioned so it isn't pointing toward the "dead" part of the chamber (which is the lower area) like between 4 and 8 o'clock.

Got it  where do i put the clock?:) So the open end of the plug faces the center of the engine:dontknow:

I always thought the welded electrode was faced toward incomming air flow to sheild the spark. ( i did my hemi that way..maybe its wrong)

Standing beside the vehicle (either over the fender on the passenger side or the drivers side), you want the open part of the electrode somewhere between the 10 and 2 o'clock position (assuming it is a clock or a watch with hands, and not the digital type) ;)
So yes, the center of the engine would be fine as a target or a bit towards the back or a bit towards the front.
There was a thread on this a while back that was met with both rejoice and with doubt.
It is something a TRUE hemi engine doesn't care about but wedge designs (like the Viper engine) seem to. The new Hemi engines are "sort of" both designs.
I have known others over the years that have very high powered vehicles that think it is worthwhile, and I am one of those. Well, all except owing a VERY high powered vehicle...Besides it is GUARANTEED TO MAKE MORE OF A DIFFERENCE ON THE TRUCKS THAN HEADERS OR A K&N COLD AIR KIT. :D :D :D

THanks Ronnie....I havent changed the plugs on my 05 yet but when i do they will get indexed.
Took me all day to index (the hard way) the plugs on my wifeys 03 Hemi QC as i started out with 32 plugs, the 16 leftover plugs went in my 04 work truck.

I had one of the early '03 Hemi QC Trucks. You know, the ones that got awesome mileage ;) It was a character building experience to get at those back plugs. Hey, did you ever run the plug wires so each pair of plugs fired at the same time? It made quite a difference on mine. (Back to that combustion efficiency thing again).
