I have no idea on the actual purpose, other than it collected everything that went into the engine bay and looked like crap 5 days after because I had to drive through a massive ran storm while driving to california and back..... and the bugs.....yuk
I believe the purpose is to quiet some of the engine noise to the cab.ViperJeff said:

Extra noise is no problem, was worried more about heat issues.
Never had a problem with heat...
Temps range from -10 to 105 in Utah

Hi Larry, can you confirm we're talking about the insulation BEHIND the engine, yes? I'm at that stage now where I'm considering: A) peeling away the silver garlic bread looking (ugly ass) heat foil leaving the dark grey insulator only. B) painting it in a high temp plastic style black paint (haven't found any suitable paint yet) or C) worst case, removing all of it altogether. My only hesitation with removing it altogether is that it will make inside the cab temperatures increase quite dramatically. I'm getting my headers HPC coated which can drop under hood temps by 550c (1000+F), yes, DROP temperatures that much so that will definitely help. I just don't want to remove it then find it is needed because it looks like to re-install it, it will be an engine out job - eeek, not an option!! So if I didn't like the higher temps, then I'd just have to put up with it.TNVIPER said:

yeah,i pulled mine off and put a little armour all on the plastic underneath...looks good.

I was talking about the felt insulation covering the plastic above the engine........I have not removed the foil insulation on the firewall and would not think it a good idea.....
Thanks Larry, yeah, I agree, that's why I was curious. I may look at removing the silver "paper", it's around 0.0001" thick lol leaving just the 1/2" thick dark grey insulator behind it. I'll see........All I know is I'm cleaning up The Batram's bay something wicked lol :laugh: lots of shuffling and re-organizing. I want a very clean and open bay, no junk, just the donk looking back at yah.

I like the painted "Viper Powered" look but I agree that pulling it off will clean the truck up alot...
