The oem system struggles. In my mind there are two components involved:
1. Having the lowest possible temperature going into the intake to allow maximum horsepower production without the negative issues of internal heat.
2. The IAT sensor will drive the pulling of timing via the CPU to protect your engine.
Both issues need to be addressed and the design of the AC unit routing seems to do that pretty well.
We need to remember that the stock system is designed to be utilitarian and mainly for street use...as intake temperatures rise (especially in warm climates) the CPU pulls timing which alters the air/fuel ratio to protect your engine...great for protection, not so great for putting power to the pavement.
