I took my truck in to have the camshaft bolt recall taken care of yesterday. It was supposed to be done yesterday afternoon but they needed another part. So today the guy calls me and tells me they have a problem.

When they removed the oil pan bolt it stripped the pan out. They said that whoever changed the oil last put it in too tight and ruined the pan. They are advising me to put a new pan on it for $1100, not to mention labor.

The last place to change the oil was another dodge dealership here in atlanta. I also have the powertrain plus warranty on it.

How is this my problem? Should I be expected to pay for this? Should I be able to tell the service manager to get bent cuz its his baby now?

I'm so f-ing pissed.

By what you have written, this is NOT your problem!. You may want to put a call into Dodge to find the regional rep and let them know what's going on. Paper work is crucial. Do you have the last receipt for the oil change? You should also notify the Atlanta dealer who did the oil change, the findings of this dealer!.

Yes, this is a relatively easy project for a shop. If the threads aren't too damaged. Otherwise you could even DRILL enough metal to remove bad threads, and re-tap, except your oil plug will be a new diameter.

When I mentioned that the guy seemed a little hesitant. He said that he had never done one on an aluminum pan before. I searched the net a little and it seems to be a fairly routine repair, so long as they get all of the metal shavings out of the pan.

Any dealers on the board that care to respond?

If you like your truck you will get it away from that dealer as fast as you can....

The Dealer is not screwing you. He is involved in foreplay and intends to!

Have him call the other dealer and they can decided what to do...the regional rep may have to mediate between the two...but stand your ground...and once the pan is replaced (they are in very short supply by the way)...

Do your own routine maintenance!

Change your own oil and filter...change your own transmission fluid...check your tire air pressure, remove your wheels and tires to clean the calipers and inside of your wheels.

It is amazing how much you will learn in the process and how much more you will love your truck because you have gotten more intimate with it.

I just got the truck last week. The dealer that I purchased it from did the oil change before I bought it. I have changed the tranny and diff fluid already. I was actually going to change the oil just to be anal but then realized that it would be changed when they performed the recall.

I have already gone over the scene if i had been laid up under the truck only to remove the bolt and it be stripped out. then I would be stuck. I would have just retapped the pan though.

I think retapping would be the simpliest solution, but the guy seems like he's not sure if he wants to do it. He is talking with the techs and his manager right now.

Where have you heard that the pans are in short supply? They would be just about my luck at this point.

Sh1t!!!!!

I thought you stopped fornucating? :dontknow: :p :D

As others have said, get the Regional Rep involved. This SHOULD NOT be your problem. (Having worked at a dealer before, but not a dodge dealer)

They were on backorder a few weeks/months ago. They just released.

Retapping a pan is problematic...go for the new one...if they can find one.

There have been people on here...repair shops looking for them, over the past year. Maybe the problem has been solved by now...I've had three emails looking for a pan...

I had the dealer put the parts they had taken off in the bed of the truck and towed it back to my shop and fixed it my self. They screwed up more on my truck than they fixed...

Well what in the heck am I supposed to do if they say "we'll be happy to replace the pan for you but its going to be two months before we can get one"

Am I supposed to pay for a rental car for two months? I'm already on day two with this pos rental. Should they reimburse me for going over the quoted amount of repair time?

Any reputable dealer should put you in a rental for any type of VOR (vehicle off road) repair.

You need to pin this problem on the dealer who sold and damaged the truck!

Call them, if the play lame then get the Rep involved.

They will take advantage of you if you let them!!

Keep us informed!!

Truer word have never been spoken.

I'm so pissed right now. I'm just going to go up there and get this crap settled. I'm going to make them show me the pan and how they expect to get it corrected.

What was supposed to be a 5 hour repair is turning into a freakin disaster!
